The Menagerie

Grenache Blanc Grenache Gris 2021

2021 Menagerie Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris. Ripe (Turkish) apricot aromas. A silky body but with amazing pear skin texture, the slightest bit of barnyard and lemony sour beer with soft but drying tannins that linger. #winefood #winefoodproject2023 — 10 months ago

Laherte Frères

Ultradition Brut Champagne Blend

Nice medium dosage brut with loads of flavor. Mag became lees-y and rich as we approached the finish and it warmed. Mineral and lime interplay was superb. Gorgeous golden Buddha hand zest, pith menagerie, and a tangy white berry. .

Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2015

The force is strong with this one. Gravity defying ethereality relative to the immense density of flavor and a mouthfeel that pushes 1,000 thread count. Opens with a wild fruit arrangement of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry that comes through in perfect harmony, followed by grilled tangerine peel and baking spices with an earthy bent. The background is filled with a menagerie of orchard fruit, wildflowers, faint smoke, black tea, and rose hip. The balance and weightlessness are a deceptive precursor to the echo of a noticeably lengthy finish. — 7 years ago

Château Branaire (Duluc-Ducru)

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Refined. It has a lot going on but all well integrated, somehow showing age already but in a very pleasant way. Fresh, yet lightly oxidized with intent, a menagerie of fruits and soft spices. Very delicious, special occasion given the price point, want to try more Bordeaux of this status — a year ago

Vigna Scarrone Barbera d'Alba 2016

A heady menagerie of fruit and floral aromas, intense fruit flavors balanced by a driving acidity. Raspberry, plum, cherry, and blackberry, both fresh and candied characteristics. Oak further balances the fruit further but plays nicely and I want more — 4 years ago

Owen Roe

Red Willow Vineyard Chapel Block Syrah 2009

2009 vintage consumed in October, 2018.

Aging very gracefully, the nose still has gobs of fruit. Some of it fresh, some of it dried, some of it baked. It's the complexity of fruit that is really remarkable hair. Not necessarily the complexity of other esoteric or earth-based aromas. Just the sheer menagerie of dark fruits, light fruits, and fruits of all colors.

The powdery tannins have really resolve themselves and go down like Silk. As you drink, a bouquet of lilacs and violets come up through the back of your nose leading to a long lip-smacking finish.

It also transforms and peels off in layers as you go through the bottle.

If you have any of this in the cellar, there is no dire need to jump on it. This bottle could have easily lasted another five to seven years.

Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Franc 2017

Oolong tea leaves, herbal menagerie, gorgeous floral lift. Cassis and currants, leather and iron. Lithe frame. Perfectly balanced acid with crunchy tannins. Nimble across the palate, but with depth and complexity at every turn. A lingering finish that keeps on giving. Gorgeous wine. — 2 years ago

J. Lassalle

Preference Brut Premier Cru Champagne Blend

Menagerie of fruit; apples, pears, and nectarines. Yeasty/biscuitty characteristics secondary to the fruit. Excellent balance, the brightness of the fruit makes for a nice highlight in place of totally relying on acidity — 5 years ago

Drew Family Cellars

Mendocino Ridge Albariño 2013

Menagerie of tropical fruits with good acid that definitely combine to give the sensation of Cali Sauv Blanc (but without the grapefruit). Tends away from the classic Spanish drive of green flavors and slight RS, but brings slightly more weight yet still really crisp, clean and zippy. A nice alternative from a great Mendo producer. — 7 years ago
