Strawberry Rhubarb

Marcel Lapierre

Morgon Gamay 2018

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2018 “S” pours a slightly hazy garnet/purple color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of pomegranate, cranberry, strawberry, licorice, purple flowers, green herbs and crushed rock. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+. I love me some Lapierre. Drink now through 2038. — 7 days ago

@Somm David T the tomatoes, yes. The peaches were grown by a friend. We made a burrata peach salad with the latter.

Always love this wine every year. The 2023 is 14%. Tons of dried strawberry on the nose. Excellent depth and mouthfeel, with a surprisingly long finish. Quite delicious. — 4 months ago

Rubentis Getariako Txakolina Hondarrabi Beltza Hondarrabi Zuri Rosé Blend

Very light pink-orange in color with a very light floral nose. Very smooth but also very light in body with a very slight small bubble fizz. Slightly sweet with flavor of primarily strawberry and maybe some peach and a slight edge of citrus too. Nice and very good for an aperitif drink. — 4 years ago

Sonoma County Trousseau 2024

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three days. Consistent throughout though, I think I slightly preferred it after some air on Day 1. The 2024 pours a pale ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with winsome notes of bruised strawberry, watermelon Bubblicious, cranberry, pink flowers, and wet cement. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Tegan has become a master of Trousseau as this is about as good as any you will have, including the Jura. Drink now through 2034. — 9 days ago

Bandol Rosé Blend 2022

9.1

Aromas of strawberry, pomelo, watermelon, rose petal, sea breeze, and hint of thyme. The palate adds additional red berries, citrus, and faint earthy notes. Medium body that is nicely textured. Fresh yet round acidity. There is off-dry sensation on the otherwise slightly savory medium finish.

Lovely but pricy rose.

I would say in many cases, the gold standard for Provence rosés. A property my wife & I visited in 2015.

From 109% Alsatian Pinot Noir. Light pink/salmon color. Nose features strawberry, raspberry and orange zest. Bright red berry and red apple flavors. Medium bodied and a nice mousse with tiny bubbles that hang around for a reasonable amount of time. Juicy fruit with a clean and dry finish. — 3 years ago

Baden Spätburgunder Rosé 2021

Learned helplessness. Man 12%. And 20$ or so. I just can’t help it - this is the best Rosé ever. Unfiltered. This was really shaken not stirred when I traveled about town before it was popped. Tart, rhubarb gal-lore!!! Lemon. Typically I hate Rosé’s which often taste like nothing / this ain’t it. — 4 months ago

Tavel Grenache Rosé 2020

I tend to be rather picky about rosé, but I always love those from the Tavel area. This one is consistently satisfying. Glorious salmon-pink color and fresh, juicy flavors of strawberry and watermelon. Great with our Niçoise salad! 60% Grenache, 13% Clairette, 13% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 3% Mourvèdre, 1% Bourboulenc. 5/15/22. — 4 years ago
