Margariat Saint-Joseph Syrah 2023

Lyle Fass
9.8

Astonishing right out of the bottle. Gorgeous Northern Rhône nose of green and black olive, granite, blackberry, red currant and wild Syrah perfume. But the story is the tannins. My God. The refinement here is insane: molten, elegant, seamless tannins that melt across the palate with ridiculous class. So drinkable, so pure, so balanced, with deep fruit, granitic freshness and a long, graceful finish. This is my favorite Saint-Joseph, and it is drinking beautifully already. — 15 days ago

La Noue Sancerre Rouge Pinot Noir 2021

High stakes fall baseball and a Sancerre rouge. This is quite nice for the difficult ‘21 vintage. Color is super light. Nose is quite fragrant, with wafting sweet cherry juice, a mid-toned floral note, and flinty crushed stone. Enters gently on the palate, with cherry juice leading, but a bitterish note quickly appears and accelerates on the slightly short finish. Overall, a fine effort given conditions, and lovely with a simply roasted chicken. — 10 months ago

Mosaique Calcaire Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Delectable Wine
9.0

The new name for Riffault's Sancerre Blanc, 2022 Mosaïque Calcaire, is the house's main wine, combing up to 20 parcels. It's a supple, almost succulent style with ripe fruit - melon, pear and pineapple. It has a charming tenderness and holds the mouth with comforting reassurance. It remains light on its feet, like a cloud of Sancerre floating. It's ripe, but the alcohol remains moderate, and there's gentle acidity there. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, July 2023) — 3 years ago

Les Chasseignes Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2019 Sancerre Les Chasseignes has a ripe and open expression. It fills the mouth with a sense of effortlessness, which Stephane Riffault puts down to both the caillottes soil and the ripeness of the vintage. It is in the riper spectrum of Sauvignon aromatics. This wine leaves the variety's green flavors far behind and focuses instead on orchard fruit and almost heads into the realms of tropical fruit, which isn't something you normally associate with Sancerre. Gently refreshing with the caillottes providing a line of chalkiness on the finish. One for the short to medium term due to the vintage's ripe profile. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2021)
