The Bedrock Heritage Sonoma Valley Red Blend 2022

This is amazing!!! Pomegranate, red apple skins, plum jam, pine tree, some shortbread, more herbs and fruit on the finish. This has time! What a wine! — 3 months ago

Evangelho Vineyard Heritage Zinfandel Blend 2022

The 2022 Evangelho Heritage blend by Bedrock is very light on its feet with a streak of bracing acidity — almost effervescence — along with light tannins. It’s a deep hazy purple in its youth with a nose of tart berry compote and leather. Seems like it will mature nicely. — 5 months ago

Clos du Val Wine Co.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

This was a lovely wine. Better than I expected/remembered. Balanced fruit-forward and very pleasant to drink on this summer evening — 8 months ago

Clos du Val Wine Co.

Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1976

Delectable Wine
9.6

The 1976 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from Clos du Val is the most interesting of all the wines. The estate was founded by John and Henrietta Goelet in the early Seventies when the couple challenged recently graduated winemaker Bernard Portet to create a Bordeaux-inspired estate in Napa. Clos du Val attained global recognition when its inaugural 1972 Cabernet Sauvignon was one of the wines poured blind by Steven Spurrier at the epochal The Judgement of Paris, so this bottle of 1976 was one of their earliest bottlings that, incidentally, came directly from Clos de Val’s apparently meager reserves. It is very elegant and perfumed on the nose, typical old school, classic Napa Cabernet in all its unfettered glory, beautifully defined with wilted rose petals and a light fish scale element. Supple, very pliant tannins define the palate. There remains ample freshness and poise, a fine silver thread of acidity and a clove-tinged, rounded, exquisitely balanced finish that would surpass practically every other Bordeaux from this vintage. Outstanding. (Neal Martin, Vinous, April 2024)

Palmer & Co

Brut Reserve Champagne Blend

Palmer turned my head in general at a recent tasting—if you can get your hands on the 1996 vintage my gosh…but for exceptional Champagne at (if not everyday) more frequently do-able prices lean in. Toasty white bread with these citrus notes that…can I be honest? It reminds me when as a teen vegetarian in St Louis I’d do late night runs to Steak and Shake where my friends got burgers but I’d order toast and butter with a lime freeze. Those toasty but piquant and refreshing notes. Expect like that on a platter with even more nuance. Obvi it doesnt taste like that precisely but its toast and citrus vibes don’t let go and cream and apple butter are backup singers. Do drink Palmer. — 8 months ago

La Jota Vineyard Co.

Howell Mountain Merlot 2018

Blend of mostly Merlot with a little Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with aromas of ripe dark fruits, sweet spice and espresso notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and black cherry with toasty oak, cacao and espresso. Fine soft tannins, long finish ending with fruit, oak and sweet pepper spice. Still has room to age, but nice now! — a month ago

Slightly corked sadly. On the nose the wet cardboard is obvious but on the palate there is a very young Bordeaux styled wine. The group guessed 2005 / early 2000's. Impressively youthful. — 3 months ago

Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Deep ruby in color; black cherries, baking spices, and leather on the nose; medium acidity; high tannins; tastes like black plums, blackberries, and boysenberries with a long finish. Chewy, good mouth feel. Nellie says it ok. I love it. I bet it would have been great with a steak, if I hadn't reverse seared them. The oak in the wine is intensified by the smoke on the steak. Still a really good wine. — 8 months ago
