Provence Rosé Blend

Bandol Rosé Blend 2022

Ming L
9.1

Aromas of strawberry, pomelo, watermelon, rose petal, sea breeze, and hint of thyme. The palate adds additional red berries, citrus, and faint earthy notes. Medium body that is nicely textured. Fresh yet round acidity. There is off-dry sensation on the otherwise slightly savory medium finish.

Lovely but pricy rose.

I would say in many cases, the gold standard for Provence rosés. A property my wife & I visited in 2015.

Cuvée La Tourtine Bandol Mourvedre Blend 2021

Bucket list wine. Always wanted to try the red but it is elusive. Some say it’s the Grand Cru of Provence. Found it at Grand Barrail in Bordeaux FR. It is decadent, I’d have it again any day. — 2 months ago

La Migoua Bandol Mourvedre Blend 1995

Unlike La Tourtine, this bottle’s cork wouldn’t come out in one piece, on first sip this is more dark-fruited and almost brooding aromatically and on the palate, massive fruit impression, great balance, also a super long, lingering finish, another WOW! While I hesitate to say this, in the old days I would describe this La Miguoa as rough and masculine, and La Tourtine as silky and feminine, but both are truly outstanding. The price tag from WinEx back in the day was still on this bottle, $22.99. — 3 months ago

In my second wine biz job (mid-80s) I sold Tempier for Mosswood Wines, Gerald Asher’s company. It was a hard sell. No one had heard of Bandol at the time. Tempier hadn’t started making the single-plot wines yet. They had a regular bottling and a “Speciale Reserve” or “Reserve Speciale.” I can’t remember. I loved the wines and visited the region in ‘85 with my wine-hating then-girlfriend. The growers we visited were amazed that an American had heard of their region and were super hospitable.

@Tom Casagrande, the “enhanced basic” cuvée back then was “Cuvée Speciale”, not sure when Miguoa and Tourtine started, first vintage I saw was 1985 (and Kermit was the importer back then). I think Cabassou and La Louffe started in 1993 (a GREAT vintage, I still have a fair slug of that vintage for when you and @Dave finally ACTUALLY get on an airplane). By 1995 KLWM’s pricing had driven me to other sources, thus these 1995s from WinEx in the OC!!

Château de Pibarnon (Comte de Saint Victor)

Bandol Mourvedre Blend 2021

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Red fruits on the nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This young Mourvedre from Bandol is starting to drink beautifully now. Already showing nice complexity and good balance, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

Soft and elegant. Complex and interesting. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food.

A blend of 90% Mourvedre and 10% Grenache. Aged in used French oak barrels for 18 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$60.
