Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2017

I’ve been reading & hearing about this rising Burgundy star for awhile. It was time.

The first thing I would say about this bottling is it is still very young. A few years will improve it greatly.

While young, it rides the French Burgundy & Sonoma Chardonnay fence with great balance between the two. The wood use isn’t big, just more than I like at this point for burgundy. I think that will soften in time. They use about 20% new for their Bourgogne Chardonnay & 30% for their higher end whites.

The nose is cream soda with a touch of ginger. Green apple, pineapple, lime candy, elegant minerality, soft chalkiness, sea spray, sweet butter, vanillin, sweet volcanics, yellow lilies, spring flowers with a touch of cut greens.

The body is round with good viscosity. Really beautiful. Drinks like a nice Meursault. Cream soda with a touch of ginger. Green apple, pineapple, lime candy, white peach, hints of grapefruit with a touch of sugar, honeysuckle notes, elegant minerality, soft chalkiness, sea spray, sweet butter, vanillin, herbal characteristic, sweet volcanics, yellow lilies, spring flowers, fruit blossoms with a touch of cut greens. The acidity shows the strength of the vintage. The finish is; perfect balance fruit & earth, elegant with excellent polish that persists several minutes.

Get it while you can. They produce several wines and only make a total production of 3,000-4,000 cases depending on what the growing season brings.

Photos of; long shot of their Domaine, father and son winemaking team of Bernard and Pierre Boisson, a near perfect cluster of Chardonnay grapes and the family (Pierre, Bernard & Anne) tasting in their cellar.

What a nose. Unreal. Huge black and red cherries. Mineral. Loam. Blueberry, raspberry. Amazingly detailed fruit. So so saturated. Spice, so floral. Just a depth one can’t believe. Wow those inner mouth aromas. Massively concentrated, inky, dark and brooding, huge tannins, amazingly dense fruits, big tannins and and big acid, but amazingly vivid fruit despite all the bigness of the structure. Blackberry sap and extract are off the charts. This needs 5-7 years. Epic wine. — 18 days ago

Les Narvaux Meursault Chardonnay 2011

after three premoxed wines last night—different producers—I was relieved when this wine vibrates with electricity and snappy acidity. My tastebuds are all doing the wave as they enjoy the citrus and orchard fruit packed into this Meursault. No nuttiness and not a lot of minerality at this point, but I am happy. — 6 days ago

Grand Cru Champagne Blend 2011

@Delectable Wine this is Les Avats

A champagne from a vintage that is, shall we say, not particularly lauded. Nevertheless, I've had some fantastic experiences with 2011 Champagnes, and this one might be the best of the bunch. This is probably better than the 2011 Pierre Peters Chetillons. From a single parcel <<Les Avats>> in Avize, this is, I believe, a blanc de blanc even though it isn't listed as such. There is no disgorgement information on the bottle. Notes from 4 hours open.

The nose is a heavenly mixture of soft lime and meyer lemon, custard, some oxidative nutty notes. On the palate, the acidity is on point, the mousse is soft and carries the flavors so well, there is more lemon, a touch of rich oxidative character with a slight coffee tinge, but then, all of a sudden, it lightens up in the palate, almost like cotton candy dissolving, yet somehow manages not to give up its intensity. Wow. I have a few more bottles, but the current CellarTracker drink-by dates say 2026-2036...there is no way I could wait that long; this drinks so well already.

@Aravind Asok Agreed, I have the 11 but not popped yet. Not sure I could hold them 15 more years without drinking. The Les Avats is in the system already, I have 10's posted.

La Grande Recolte Bouzy Grand Cru 2006

Super fresh, clean and so delicious. Granny smith apple, biscuity notes, and a beautiful long finish. Amazing bubbles that really shows the difference in level for Grand Cru Vintage Champagne. With every penny and then some. Can't wait to have again. — 10 days ago

Volnay Pinot Noir 1981

I am a big fan of this producers older wines of which I drank a lot of them from the 40’s - 60’s at Berns. This had sweet dark cherry, strawberry, orange peel, baking spices & rose petal. This showed amazing richness for this vintage. — 17 days ago

Smoking good. Super lifted, classic rose / lychee aromatics. Fat and round on the palate, with a musky leesiness on the finish. Held up amazingly well over 3 nights. As good an Alsatian GWZ that I've been fortunate to try. — 2 days ago

Cuvee Cassaneas Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2017

Sweet minerals on the nose.

Palate is very clean. Definitely a mineral bomb. Lemon pith .. sweet lemon pith. Aerated lemon zest. Dense but in a cerebral way. Laser ground dusty minerals. Almost mineral spice. Terrific palate roundness. Hits all parts of the palate.

This is NOT a pop and pour. It needs 30-60 minutes. Treat it like a high end village wine.

Bought from fass selections.

Le Chemin de Paradis Grand Cru

A great reward for a very long day of outside chores; lawn, extensive plantings in the gardens, harvest in the early Fall might be the end of me this year. I hope we have enough canning jars!?

Prior notes apply, and then some, worthy of the score alone on the nose. Palate is amazing, slightly better than prior bottles. Last bottle on this stellar NV selection. Need to get more cellar depth on this one.

Stunning out of Riedel Vinum Champagne glasses!

Lovely high toned nose, red cherry, spicecake, confectionary high toned, raspberry cake, raspberry coulis. So aromatic, wood shop shavings. Palate is lush and acidic but superbly elegant. There are tannins but not a wall. Elegant and playful. Concentrated and so juicy. Superbly red fruited. Complex and lithe. Dense, concentrated and so balanced. Truly brilliant. — 18 days ago
