Pommard Pinot Noir 2015

“I see everyone is having a productive morning... Tip of the spear. Edge of the knife... Crack of my ass!" Well this sums it up. Quite stinky at first. Oxidized and pale. But give it 3 hours and this wine blows your socks off. Alas at its peak drink now. If you want to learn more read previous notes. This is one of the best Burghs out there. — 6 months ago

Cornas Syrah 2018

This bottle was opened sometime earlier in the evening before a glass was handed to me. Pacalet’s 2018 Cornas pours, a deep ruby purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with wild notes of ripe and tart black and red fruits: mixed brambles, freshly cracked black pepper, bacon fat, lavender, dried green herbs and gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Considering Philippe is Burgundian, I think he does a great job with Cornas; certainly showing a sense of place with the feral nature of Serine. Drink now through 2038. — a year ago

Excellent! It took very little time to breathe which was unexpected for a 2011. We will be buying more of this if we can find it. — 2 years ago

Cuvée des Generations Gaston Philippe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2009

Didn’t hold up especially well. Decanted for an hour and got rid of the sediment. Lacking in acid and depth, and the fruit is somewhat receded but without much to take its place. Still a fine wine but didn’t live up to expectations. — 6 months ago

@Pooneet K , a question for you — did this wine have “too much new oak” for a Chateauneuf-du-Pape?? I’ve had that experience with this property.

@Doug Powers probably. That has been more apparent on other bottles I’ve had from them, this one was more just tired.

A night of finishing coravined 07’s.

A purchase on the secondary market about 8 plus months ago. Its storage not what mine would show at this point. It’s farther advanced from what it should be at this stage, but still enjoyable. Showing some liqueur notes.

I feel similarly about this producers Napa Cabernets as I do Joseph Phelps. There’s differences and I lean into Phelps Napa over most of the Heitz Napa’s.

The nose shows baked & slightly stewed fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, dark slightly liqueured cherries, both plums stewed, cherries, raspberries, tree bark with sap, mid berry cola, delicate baking spices-nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, vanillin, spices, anise to black licorice, black tea, fresh & old tobacco, sweet tarriness, withering & just slightly, candied flowers that are dark at the core, red, withering red roses with violets.

The palate is ripe, a touch lush & ruby; blackberries, black raspberries, dark slightly liqueured cherries, both plums, cherries & raspberries. Tree bark with sap, mid berry cola, delicate baking spices-nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, vanillin, caramel, malt balls, menthol, dark spices with some palate heat, anise to black licorice, expresso, milk chocolate w/ toffee bit’s, black tea, fresh & old tobacco, sweet tarriness, sweet forest floor w/ dry leaves, withering & just slightly, candied flowers that are dark at the core, red, withering red roses with violets, excellent acidity, well balanced/crafted, nicely tensioned & elegance/polish for days with a finish that lasts 90 seconds and lands evenly on earthiness & spice.

Le Ginglet Arbois Pupillin Trousseau 2018

Longtime favorite and I snap up this foxy number whenever I see it. Crunchy strawberry and herbs, a bit of animal and yeast at the end but not too much to compromise the freshness. I don’t think this ages and should be drunk up but that doesn’t make it any less special — 2 years ago

Brut Rosé Champagne

Medium gorgeous rosé color and intense aromas of red apple, cranberry, violet, raspberry, lemon, bread dough and pastry. This has more class and while not delicate it has more finesse than the average NV rose. On the palate, crisp acidity well-balanced with the fruit and a long finish. — a year ago
