Le Roc Anjou Cabernet Franc 2014

I’ve had a few bottles of this. It’s $12-14, first of all. The first night it comes off as a pretty basic bistro wine. Good acid, small tannins with some tack, straight up blackberry, very juicy. The next day the fruit turns more to ripe sour cherry and violets explode in the nose, it gets really perfumed. There is a perfect roasted green pepper note (which I happen to love) and Lots of spice on the finish the second day. — 20 days ago

@Severn Goodwin I’ve heard that that’s what they’re known for. That they make this cab franc and a cab sauv that they only release sporadically because they concentrate on their sweet whites.

Pleasant and rounded. A bit too much on the creamy side — 2 days ago

Le Souffle Vin de France Melon de Bourgogne 2019

Philippe has only been making wine since 2015, but this feral, hazy Muscadet shows a level of restraint and civility that often comes later in a winemaker’s arc. A blend of Melon from 5 hectares, he uses a screw press and zero S02. Its A riper voluptuous Muscadet with plenty of concentration and acid. Yeasty lemons and white flowers, flavors of white peach and apricot in a saline bath. — 14 hours ago

Petit Taureau Côtes du Roussillon Red Blend 2017

I just don’t understand how people rate this wine so low. This is absolutely perfect for what it is, even northern Rhône in character which I find to be a great trick in winemaking to transcend the often cloying southern Rhône character. This has energy, freshness, lift, it’s clean, and perfect balance of fruit and a dash of earth. Great food wine. Doesn’t need food. — 2 days ago

Vieilles Vignes Morey-Saint-Denis Pinot Noir 2015

This was rich, deep with complex layers of sappy fruit and spice that soars out of the glass. A “Wow Wine” & one of the best $50 range Burgundies that I have ever experienced. A producer I buy at all Cru levels that shows purity of fruit & transparency. — 14 hours ago

Mouton Cadet Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Beautiful ruby red color. Intense aroma of dark red fruit with some ash, earth, and spice underpinnings. I find the mouth feel to be actually kind of light. Flavors of raspberries, blueberries. Very tannic in my opinion, but not overwhelming. Better with food. Drinking it with some leftover pasta carbonara and it works., — 19 days ago

Escudo Rojo Reserva Carmenere 2018

Black cherry skins, bleeding plums, green cocoa beans, banana peppers, and rich potting soil upfront. Firm tannic structure that’s lifted by fresh acidity. Fantastic earthy tonalities underneath everything. Delicious. — 21 days ago
