Paul Sauer Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Medium deep , ruby centre and ruby rim . Dark blackberry , spicy tobacco , earthy currants , coffee . On the palate quite dark fruit focused , blackcurrant , blackberry , dark cherry . With time in the glass this seems to show a bit more of the earthy , tobacco notes also present on the nose. Quite high fresh acidity , slightly gritty tannins , quite good tobacco tinged finish . This is showing well now but will age well for a further decade — 15 days ago

Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

2014 vintage. Excellent fill and cork. Not decanted. Tasted after 1.25 hours open. The best red I’ve ever tasted from Paul Hobbs (and have had approx 125 samples over the years-including the high-end bleep). In a really admirable place currently between integration and balance, fruit and tannins. Will it improve? Doubtful. Can it hold steady for a spell? Definitely. Not exactly the biggest fan of what consists of To Kalon/Tokalon juice/interpretation these days vs the 60’s/70’s/80’s/earlyish 90’s but this was phenomenal. Medium body with respectable sed. A mullet wine…all business up front with a party on the back palate. Color me surprised and impressed. 11.8.24. — 2 months ago

Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2015

From Magnum. Opened about an hour before dinner; enjoyed over the course of two days. Best after a couple of hours. The 2015 “Domaine de Thalabert”pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and desiccated fruit: blueberries, figs, lavender, Kalamata olive, leather, coffee, Bacon fat, spices, and organic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This was pretty shy and awkward early but after significant air, it came alive. Lots of life left. Drink now through 2035. — 10 days ago
