Poured into a decanter right before service. The 2020 pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity, with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Montmorency cherry, red flowers, black tea, fresh sage, some dried green herbs and dry, dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a classic, rustic Chianti Classico without the DOCG designation. Better after 2030 and will drink well through 2045. — 5 months ago
I brought this bottle to the Tasting Group and served double-blind. Popped and poured. Deep, translucent ruby with a watery rim. On the nose: red cherries, dried herbs, Earl Grey, dusty earth and a hint of baking spice. On the palate: again with the red cherries, black tea, and dried herbs. Medium tannins and good acid. Impeccable balance. Finish is long and a touch savory. One taster remarked that it reminded him of Montevertine (whoa, he was close!). Pound for pound, one of the best Rosso’s coming from Montalcino that can be had at any price and this can be had under $30 all day. The 2016 is a fire cracker in its youth and delivering the goods right now. A contrast to the 2015 which, to my palate, was a touch flabby. Absolutely charming. — 6 years ago
Great but pricy. A super traditional producer from Chianti. 90% Sangiovese. Cherries 🍒 and black tea notes chalk and dust. Way too young only 12.5%. La Perla from the same winery is a benchmark. This is good too. From the SD wine company last bottle. — 9 years ago
Don’t touch for 5-10+ years but this is nearly perfect — a month ago
Montevertine's Pian del Ciampolo blend is 90% Sangiovese, rest with equal amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino, deep Ruby with purple hues, aromas of red fruits, floral, herbs and smoky oak. On the palate flavors of cherry and currants with dried herb notes, cacao and tobacco notes. Fine ripe sweet tannins, long finish ending with fruit and an earthy herb spice character. Nice! — 4 months ago
A med+ ruby red core. The nose is very complex, in line with it's former classification as the Riserva of Corzano and Paterno, and because it is now an IGT instead that is 100% Sangiovese like all of Tuscany's best Sangiovese only IGT wines that do not call themselves Chianti Classico (Montevertine is the OG of this philosophy). The wine is aromatically endowed with beautiful layers of fresh, red, dusty, cherries and berries, with barely a touch of sweet balsamic, earth, leather, red and brown spices. On the palate this med to med+ bodied wine has spectacular energy, lift and poise, with med/med+ fine tannins and acidity that leans more med+ but is perfectly integrated. The vibrant and spiced red fruits on the palate are classic, juicy, and dense, with a long finish. You can definitely enjoy this now with some air for the delicious primary fruit or let it age gracefully for 10-12 years easy. — 8 months ago
needs some time. Felt a bit sweet following the montevertine but very good. — 7 years ago
Nice bonus to a fine meal at Charlie Bird. Props to Brandon and the team for their hospitality, Montevertine for the win! — 10 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three days. Good through throughout, but probably best on Day 1. The 2022 pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and loads of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Morello cherry, red flowers, red rope licorice, fresh basil and dried green herbs, dried gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and mineral laden. This is a delicious and winsome Chianti Classico from Radda. Day 1, it reminded me a little of Montevertine “Pian del Ciampolo”. Drink now through 2042. — 3 months ago

Swooning for Sangiovese this is much more open than the 14-16 at this age, perfect, classic Sangiovese. This bottle really brought the Montevertine comparison into focus. Gentle, perfumed, elegant red fruit, florals and spice, persistent and complex. — 3 years ago
2020/4/15-16 with Venetian red tonguebsole roasted with potatoes and onions and chicory salad, and black sea bream linguine and fava, pancetta and onion ragu. Monteraponi is always so good - up there with Montevertine among my favorite Chianti estates. The 2017 edition is a light to medium weight with a nice transparent texture, and that dried orange peel and cherry thing. — 6 years ago
Finishing up some old Aqua Vitae with family. Excellent!! — 10 years ago
