Sure, it’s from Tuscany, but this is really an alpine wine, because it’s from the NW corner of Tuscany. Not often I taste a new varietal, but here it is from minuscule hectares. An hour or two decant + really lets it shine: small dark berries, currants, marble notes. 12.5% abv. My kind of wine. A 9.4 on the last glass with a moderately more voluptuous body & the small berry thing more of a thing. — 6 months ago

Addictive and absolutely stunning. Super elegant and lean when compared to the Buntsandstein from E&M. Ethereal cherry 🍒 light as air. Crushed Marble. Essentially like a Premier Cru Chambolle Musigny from the slopes of the black forest. Tannin’s fully resolved. Drink Up!!!! I would not keep this longer. From here on out it will loose its luster. — 2 years ago
Rotten eggs on the nose. Once this blows off this turns out to be an excellent and interesting Burgh like Pinot for less money. Terrific aromatics. Cherry, earth, touch crushed marble, hint meyer lemon, some spice, just a hint of all-spice.Only 12.5% yeah! — 2 years ago
Baden. Pinot. Kaiserstuhl. An old vulcano in the rhine valley. GG. Warmest area in Ger. figs grow there. Undertasted, ratet und non existent in the US. A suitcase import. Under imported. And overpriced when they are imported. Bought this for 20 bucks in 2012. Brown tinge. Orange zest nose, brown tinge. In the glass blueberries, bark, touch crushed marble, cardamom, hint turmeric, cherries and black tea. Great juice! Might go back May 2024. — 3 years ago

One can’t really make Pinot better than this. The Buntsandstein aka - colored Sand Stone. Is really a benchmark wine. One can debate the the style but not really the quality. 2015 was a stand out vintage. This comes from old vines. The wine is alive and talks. Yes talks to you:… Kirsch, almonds, crushed marble, black forest thyme, hint orange zest, touch oregano, … this goes on and on as more flavors evolve with air. The wine will probably age another 5-10 years.
An experience really! But not for the middle of the road „ let’s have a Pinot drinker“ - they will be disappointed ☹️.
I think this will outlast the 15’ Muschelkalk from E&M which is more delicate. One of the main issues the wine is hard to come by. Sometimes only 3 barrels are made. Next day eucalyptus and dried figs. — a year ago

Still catching up on the Henschke tasting last weekend. This was another Cuvée new to me. Brief notes. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Light Pass in the Barossa. Matured in 8% new and 92% seasoned French oak. Not overly “Cabernet “. Barossa is best suited to Shiraz IMO. Black cherry and fresh herbs. Not a standout when one is surrounded by other outstanding Henschke reds. — 2 years ago
Much less interesting then the 2018. Which I reviewed just recently. This wine is elegant with mostly red fruit, cherry (but not in your face) hint of black currant, Plenty of acidity. Touch bark. Subdued crushed marble. May be i am tasting this too young. But over all this just does not strike me as a wine which challenges my palate. Compared to the 2021 E&M‘s from Baden. This is very blah. — 3 years ago
Tough vintage - might have been the worst in 10 years. Yet at 6 years this came around nice. I heard a lot of folks had concerns. Earth, bark, orange 🍊 rind, crushed marble, black currants, lime juice and a hint of cherry. So even this very basic version did quite well after 6 years. 12.5%. — 3 years ago
Very cherry driven almost over the top. Raspberry and a touch of crushed marble. Definitely a wine which will please. But it lacks the earthiness of the 2016. Super juicy. Low %. Overall this is a nice example of a CA Pinot - which just wants to please unfortunately to much ….and perhaps trying to be a burgh in the process - but this vintage ain’t it. — 6 months ago
Cleaning out my cellar for a move or at least reduce what i have. All 3 E&M‘s 14,15,16 Liaisons should be consumed within 30 minutes upon opening they are good to go drink up! Within 2 hours they loose appeal. I stand corrected - this one went through a down phase and then came back after 24 hours. The freshest and brightest of my recent trifecta of E&M and also the most pale. Still quite tannic. Touch peach? Sour raspberry, hint lime 🍋🟩. Crushed marble. Quite acidic. The 14 was the clear winner. In all cases the cork was quite soft and almost all the way moist to the top. — 10 months ago
Wine dinner at Marble + Rye. Sensational wine every time. Great with blue cheese panna cotta, stoppages, smoked almond, and candied prosciutto. — 2 years ago

Their 1st vintage. Excellent and at its peak. Drink up. Very Burgundian. Dark cherries, touch blackberry, cardamom, bark, black tea, orange zest, crushed marble, In my book one of the best they made since inception of this Jadot Oregon outfit. — 3 years ago
