Reserve Chardonnay 2013

A very good modern Chardonnay from the Margaret River. Smoky Leesy Flinty Mealy , struck match aromas. Lean to medium weight palate with mainly citrus and ripe grapefruit flavours. Barb thought nectarine notes as well. Still quite delicate but with great length and persistence. This Chardonnay won the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge in 2014 from 680 entries and 98 points from James. — 17 days ago

This was bought in 2018, and saved for the right “evaluation” moment….fresh scallops over garlic cream linguine (a house specialty!) The pairing was fabulous, but the real story is this estate sourced, malo & barrel aged starlet. I knew when purchased this was as regal candidate to be cellared. The reward: a seamless golden elixir of baked yellow apples with silky butterscotch and Werther’s original fondue. All stitched together like a fine Canadian ice wine. 5 years was a bullseye win for me! Remember, age your barrel chards ;) — a day ago

Reserve Alsace Pinot Noir 2019

A strawberry and light cherry nose. On the palate, that strawberry flavor intensifies for me into those huge, red-throughout strawberries you find at the peak of season... The wine has bright acidity, but seems to have a savory earthiness that makes me think of sausage rolls... The finish is longer than I expected with perhaps some greener notes developing at the end. This wine would go great with a giant charcuterie plate I think, though my wife was significantly less enthused than I was with this bottle as she was a bit offended with the acidity. — 4 days ago

Nice to try this one after procuring it from the vineyard on a trip there in 2017. In a good place, wouldn’t wait. Very crisp and refreshing with great white sweet fruits giving just a hint of sweet sensation. Excellent minerality and acid. Nice pairing with miso cod. — 11 days ago

Reserve To Kalon Vineyard Oakville Fumé Blanc 2016

That feeling when you want a gussied-up, old-school California white from an old-school patch of land. Clearly barrel-fermented and with high aspirations, this shows a nice toasty, butterscotchy overlay on grassy, intense, green melony fruit. Great intensity of flavors and crisp, lip-smacking acids carry through on the long finish. It almost seems like it needs a year or two more to come together. This transports me back to the reserve Fume Blancs of the late 1970s. Which is exactly what I wanted tonight. — 2 days ago
