La Croix De Victoria

Mount Langi Ghiran

Cliff Edge Shiraz 2020

Spice, blue and black fruits, such a lovely cool climate Aussie Shiraz that is a wonderful QPR ($18-22 or so out here), a perfect weekday Shiraz with some ooomph and complexity. — a month ago

Bindi

Quartz Macedon Ranges Chardonnay 2020

Aromatics of struck match, lime and grapefruit - on the palate a surprising luscious texture. Overall there is fruit and mineral intensity. A fabulous new World Chardonnay - one of Australia’s best. A few years ago I conducted a blind tasting of 2015 Chardonnays which included all of Australia’s best like Giaconda and Leeuwin Art Series and a Premier Cru white burgundy just to make things interesting - the consensus winner on the day was the Bindi Quartz. — 3 months ago

Giant Steps

Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Playing catch up on some wines consumed weeks ago. Lamenting the change to this gorgeous old Giant Steps label — boring minimalist is apparently the rage these days. Recall enjoying this one, and it’s in a good place. — a month ago

Farrside Pinot Noir 2021

Had to see what this was about. Featured in Somm 3. Bright and stemmy on pop and pour. Red berries and spice tones coming in hot initially. Absolutely reads new world. Softens with time in the glass. Tasty and sense heightening. — 2 months ago

Château Canon

Croix Canon Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

Atherton Wine Imports 2026 tasting at République, Los Angeles. 2022 vintage. Better, longer finish than the 2021 version. Dark plum and cassis ruling the roost here. 3.18.26. — 4 months ago

Mount Mary

Quintet Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

Sweet black fruits - plums. Only medium weight - restrained. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. 2012 was a cooler more moderate growing season, more claret style says Sam Middleton. This is not one of the great Quintets IMO. At its best Quintets is one of the best Cabernet blends in Australia. It still reinforces the fact that the Yarra Valley is one of the better terroirs for Bordeaux blends in Australia. Not for long cellaring. This is first of 3 of the 2012 vintage I have in my cellar. — 5 months ago

Bass Phillip

Premium Gippsland Pinot Noir 2017

Brief Notes. Dark ruby in colour. Aromatics of dark cherry, herbal notes and compost heap (Sous Bois). A medium to full bodied palate. Finishing with silky tannins and a persistent long finish. Could cellar this for another 6 to 10 years. 98 points from James Halliday. — 2 months ago

Best's

Bin No 1 Great Western Shiraz 2011

2012 Jimmy Watson winner. No Bin 1 or Thompson family made in 20111 due to wet year so all the best fruit in this wine, drinking very nicely but noticeably greenish and lighter due to poor year. — 4 months ago

Bindi

Block 5 Pinot Noir 2015

One of the best Pinots I’ve had from anywhere this year. Also I should state the only note I’ve been able to put on Delectable out of 4 attempts. The previous 3 have disappeared. Light in colour and a beautifully fragrant wine with Medium + intensity. 98 points from Huon Hooke and he made this comment, “A mesmerising wine - surely one of Bindi’s best ever “. I can only agree. This is a top quality Pinot Noir no matter the origin and will probably reach the end of HH’s drinking window of 2034. This Is easily of Premier Cru and in some cases Grand Cru standard. — 4 months ago

Georgia's Paddock Shiraz 2019

97P WS, Whopping 15.5%. At the edge of where natural yeast dies. May be they used designer yeast? Anyways this is actually pretty good. Enormously complex with a bazillion interesting flavors including Eucalyptus. Picked this up for a tasting (I am hosting) it will be a mega hit. Folks will love this in your face flavor hammer. Isn’t it nice what a classicist is doing for his friends? — 6 months ago
