Eponym' Les Charmes Morgon Gamay 2014

Lyle Fass

Love this vintage of this. Awesome cranberry, violets, floral, tree bark, big gamey grapey, cherry. So so mesmerizing. What a nose. Incredibly fresh and deep. Amazing texture and so juicy with high pitched acids and lovely velvety and sweet tannins. This is very fine. Superb structure. This will be better in 3-4 years but terrific today. — 20 days ago

Morgon Gamay 2017

Second take on the 2017. No formal notes this time but more air for the wine. And this time it was much better. Everything that is cool with Foillard un an easy going wine which encourages sip after sip. Foillard is great. — a month ago

De Toute Beauté Nature Gamay 2016

Out of the gate the nose has great lift and tells you this wine is au naturale. Funk and fizz in the best way possible. Flavors of crunchy raspberry, potting soil and minerals. Great acidity. Definitely not a pop and pour wine. — 2 days ago

"Cuvée Corcelette" Morgon Gamay 2011

This has pushed the age limit for my taste. These wines certainly hold on but I like them when there is a little more density to the fruit. I just don’t think they get much better with aging beyond five years or so. Could be vintage? — 9 days ago

Beaujolais Villages Gamay 2016

Some nice tension, cranberry, cherry notes. Superb qpr and delicious, pure wine. Less sulfur than other Foillard bottlings? — 23 days ago

Château Sociando-Mallet

Cuvée Jean Gautreau Sociando-Mallet Haut-Medoc 2014

One of my favorite producers in all of Bordeaux, particularly when value enters the discussion. Dollar for delivered pleasure, this has few peers and yet, has the proven history to age gracefully for 30+ years. Dark fruits, cassis, tobacco, espresso, baking spices, earth. Finish is long and delicious. Tannins are still quite firm at this stage. Recommend an extended decant if possible. — 8 days ago

I have no complaints. So funky. Barnyard-y. Exactly what I hoped for and more. — 2 months ago

Seguret Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhone Blend 2015

I LOVE this wine. It is so old school. So much like the better CDRs and CDRVs I used to drink/sell in the early 80s. Very earthy, funky, aged meaty nose. Peppery, roasted green herbs, iodine-tinged flavors. There’s spicy blackberry skins too, but that takes a back seat to farmy garrigue. Clingy and damn good. Cambie may have have Ginger-ized most of the southern Rhône, but it is really nice to find that Mary Ann is still in the house. — 4 days ago
