Fleurie Gamay 2018

This vertical confirmed my bias that Beaujolais loses energy with age. I’ve done this a few tines and the younger gamays shine with superior crunch, spice and energy. — 9 days ago

@romo I’ve had luck aging Bouland Morgons (for 8-10 years.) I’m pretty sure I have a bunch of 2010-12 Folliard to open at some point, Morgon and Fluerie. If interested, send me a note at I might be back in LA in the fall.

Eponym' Les Charmes Morgon Gamay 2018

Lyle Fass

Beautiful nose. Just so lifted and floral. Raspberry, black cherry, blueberry, pastille effect, herbal, an apothecary vibe in a medieval video game. Palate is lush and very 18. Soft and structured with black cherry and late season red cherries. Not showing much finesse yet but has great balance. Dynamite juiciness. Really engaging and fresh but still a little 18 itis. Ripe and juicy tannins with nice floral fruit notes. Let’s see where this goes.

This stayed the same and lost some focus. 18 Foillards mostly miss the mark

Terrasses Côte-Rotie Syrah 2013

I’m having a hard time evaluating this wine as it was closed upon opening. An hour splash decant filled the room with violet, pepper, iron and earth, but the palate was muted. The next day showed more, but didn’t feel like the wine was ready to reveal its secrets. All the elements of good quality Cote Rotie are present, and perhaps with a little more time, will blossom. — a day ago

The whole package - fresh, vivid, fleshy, intense, layered, long. Hums with energy. Plenty of structure to boot, this will evolve well. Flat out delicious. — a month ago

"Cuvée Corcelette" Morgon Gamay 2017

Delicious and elegant. This wine was remarkable. I tasted it blind and had trouble placing it because it's structure and aromatic complexity didn't match with my fruit driven expectation of gamay. I've been drinking discount bojo. This was phenom. — a month ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Syrah 1995

2021/2/27 with delivery from Joel Robuchon. Many of the greatest aged red wines (with many of the greatest meals) that I’ve had have been Chave Hermitage, and here was another. The great Syrahs of the Northern Rhône become so magical with age - it enhances them as much or more than any other wine - and this is as good as they come. Astonishing aromas of roasted game, olives, black berries and spices, deep and rich yet translucent and fresh on the palate. — 7 days ago

Cuvée 3.14 Morgon Gamay

17.5 Has it all - forward nose, great fruit, some complexity, long. Could last 5 more years, but that’s not what I drink Morgon for. Perfect with poussin and calcots. — 4 days ago

Les Passetemps Santenay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Very expressive aromas of flowers, some herbal notes, clearly whole clusters and a lot of fruit that we find also on the palate that is round, fairly supple of medium body at the most, nicely balanced, a few years in the cellar will do this wine so good but it is very enjoyable now. 89-90

Un nez très expressif, vendanges entieres, floral et herbacé, du fruit à revendre tout comme en bouche, qui est assez ronde et souple, bel équilibre, un bon vin qui pourra se conserver quelques années mais agréable en ce moment. 89-90
