Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1997

Love this vintage for Yquem, one of my favorites in this time period along with 88, 90 and 01. Halfsie tonight to pair with the foie gras and then dessert! Nectar of the gods 😚 — a month ago

Nose has lovely cherry flower.

Fantastic. Bright blueberry and cherry fruit.

Brighter and less dark fruit than other years. No big licorice presence. Lovely texture. His most elegant wine I’ve had.

As this opens like some licorice flower on the finish. Also the nose. But way more licorice flower than the usual ugo licorice.

As it opens more Arledge at sweet licorice on the nose. Just his maximally delicious. Gods Cherry licorice. So sweet and elegant. Wow.

An hour in hitting God wine. Internal aromatics are sick. Sick sick sick. Just palate blasting with cherry flower licorice flower spices. So elegant. Pure. Jeebus.

Almost a very elegant at version of a very intense wine.

Could be much better than a 9.4 with age.

After a disappointing evening wine wise the Germans don’t disappoint.

Nose is deep dense blackberries. Some earth. After 30 minutes it gets some crazy savory depth.

Palate is dense blackberries. Some licorice. Round and a brilliant food wine. Very good deliciousness. After 30 minutes more serious. 1er cru serious. More dense. Gods licorice. Longer.

German pinot is the escape hatch for people priced out of burgundy. Don’t look back.

FWIW I’m having with veal tongue with shallots in a basilicata pepper white wine butter sauce.

Nose is inky. Some blackberry.

Palate is juicy blackberry fruit. Some graphite. A bit straightforward on open. Let’s see where this goes.

As this opens, silky and elegant. More floral on the nose. Lilacs. Graphite. Lovely. Palate is so silky. Wow.

Wine totally changes in 45 minutes.

75 minutes in nose approaches god status. Massive layering and complexity. Palate is Gods silk juice. Wow. InsertSuperlatives wow.

The nose was. 9.5+. The palate was delicious but not as complex. If the palate catches up to the nose over time this will be a show stopper.

In any case a decline wine.

The nose was insane. The palate was delicious but lacked in complexity to be truly great. I’ll check in again in 2 years.

I meant delicious. Not decline. Fat fingers. Lol.

Cuvee Cassaneas Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2018

A very interesting inadvertent experiment. I left this in a styrofoam case in my garage. It was there for almost 3 months. The garage hits 90 during the day.

Any rate the wine tastes like the wine.

Go styrofoam !!!!!

Nose is ocean breeze. Lemon flower.

Palate is pink grapefruit. Gods lemon soda. Almost sweet. Delicious.

This is drinking more delicious than profound at this point. Nothing wrong with that.

Stunning ethereal aromatics right out of the gates. Divine cherry of the gods. Intermingled with spice. So much minerality of the stoney kind. Just ethereal and elite aromas. Airy and gorgeous. 9.5 on the aromas. Terrific, balanced and textured wine with the most low key concentration ever. Cherries are all early season and even some sour cherry. Tangy. Amazing mouthfeel. What a nose as this opens up. So juicy. Like mega juicy with such awesome purity. Firm tannins and a very long and pure finish. Really gets to all areas of the palate. As it airs I’ll be back. As classic as it gets but also has a wonderful polish to it. — 4 years ago
