Well shit. Wildly expressive nose of tea, kirsch, saddle, fennel and sage. Started off too cold but with temperature increase opened up to a beautiful, elegant style CDP with cherry, blackberry, and all sorts of rustic garrigueness. A smoky, blue fruit finish. In the glass, the Virevolte Haut-Médoc unfurls like a velvet curtain parting on an opera at dusk. Its robe is a brooding garnet—deep, moody, suggestive of candlelit chiaroscuro and philosophical malaise. The bouquet is an olfactory aria: first, a plume of graphite and cigar box, as though the wine spent its formative years in the library of a Parisian diplomat. These give way to whispers of stewed blackcurrant, truffle ash, and petrichor on polished leather, evoking an autumnal horseback ride through the forgotten paths of Gascony.

On the palate, the wine does not so much speak as pronounce. The structure is austere yet self-assured, with tannins that march in double-breasted formation. Merlot offers a baritone plushness, while Cabernet Sauvignon contributes a tensile, almost Stoic verticality. Subtle mineral tension runs like a minor key through the mid-palate—an ode, perhaps, to the gravelly terroir that birthed it.

The finish is prolonged and philosophical—less an end than a Socratic ellipsis. One is left pondering not only the provenance of the wine but the transience of joy itself. — a year ago

Heymann Löwenstein Uhlen Laubach 2017 is a remarkable wine, especially with its modest price. A pronounced, gunpowder/ Crushed stone minerality embedded in a perfectly ripe and nuanced fruit profile. Wonderful presence on the palate with a cut through acidic spine in an athletic surrounding that is marching across the palate in a legion like formation over the finish line. One of those unicorn wines. Just a unique wine made of blend of varietals. Mostly Cab but some Pinot in there too. 2003 gives it a brickish color. Gorgeous wine with lively fruit and good acidity; lingering on the palate. “Daumas Gassac apparently has a geological formation unique in the Languedoc: chalky, friable, poor in humus, the bits of earth ranging in size from mere grains of sand to little stones, a soil similar in aspect, similar in constitution, to that of the Côte d’Or and the Italian Friuli.” Excerpt from Adventures of The Wine Route. — 2 years ago

Pineapple-grapefruit look blasts a big-bubbled white puff with even stacking. Igneous lacing formation churns into Pahoihoi. Grapefruit and pineapple match the drapes, with the pineapple turning jell-o with cream topping. Papaya and mango make the rounds, ripely.
