Fleurie, Beaujolais

Jean Foillard

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2022

Finally got to drink one of the famous #morgon producers. Sappy red fruit, touch of enticing funk, purple floral notes and some sous bois aromas. Lushly textured on palate, iron, lofty acidity. Sure it’s a bit young but had to seize the day on this occasion. #foillardftw — a month ago

Domaine de la Voûte des Crozes Côte-de-Brouilly Gamay 2015

The 2015 Côte-de-Brouilly from Nicole Chanrion is a delicious, ten year old Beaujolais Cru that delivers
good structure, excellent balance, surprising depth and a large amount of pure, primary fruit. Nothing else is needed.

Domaine Dupeuble

Beaujolais Gamay 2023

Far more than a basic Beaujolais. Seriously structured 2023 with good helpings of fruit, and acidity plus a tad of dusty, mouth coating tannins at the finish. Helluva buy at under $20. — 4 days ago

I’ve noticed that, in recent years, many types of wines (particularly from various regions in France) seem blockier and less unified/integrated when young. Like all the components are there, but separated and not vertically integrated. And it seems more pronounced the hotter the growing season that year. I am beginning to think this is a result of global warming. What I don’t yet have a fix on is if time in bottle ultimately integrates these wines. Since I tend to drink wines on the younger side, I’m not sure I’ll ever get to the point where I can make a confident conclusion on that.

Strawberry, blueberry with medium acid, beautiful medium ruby color, medium body with dry ending. Great on its own, even better with duck breast. — 2 days ago
