Miranda Erbaluce 2021

Arneis-like but at 13$ not. Erbaluce, the unpopular kid on the Piedmonte block, but the consumer gets the reward! Pale yellow w green tint, all kinds of waxy white & green fruits on nose, edamame?, and a palate of those fruits with a very thick ground of minerality. Kinda cuts through the middle between high acid & a broader mouthfeel. Could easily pair with all kinds of food- imagining everything from Indian curries to falafel based cuisine. — 2 years ago

Cariola Erbaluce di Caluso 2021

So. Damn. (Elegantly). Crushable. Rangpur lime, a petrol-y olive oil, memories of a summer fruit pie, a sprinkle of tarragon, crisp mineral-y tang that fades into a beautiful calcium carbonate lime zest finish and a hit of aromatic joint…oh, wait… — 4 years ago

Erbaluce di Caluso 2016

This has everything I love about Erbaluce. Great color and extraction, very golden and lightly honeyed. The herbal finish really lingers with fresh thyme and hints of fennel. Very vibrant and rich. — 5 years ago

Erbaluce di Caluso 2018

Pop and pour, and this was excellent; wish I had bought a lot more. On the nose: soft honey, lemon lime, soft vanilla: transparent oak influence?, but nevertheless charming. On the palate: good acidity, wet stone, oily lime, nice finish. Disappearing quickly. — 6 years ago

Biancamano Erbaluce di Caluso 2019

This quite remarkable. Erbaluce is not a very noble variety, but this wine might have you think otherwise. Perfumed lemon oil, mint with a waxy or oily texture. Med to light bodied with a surprising persistence. This is like sunlight in the glass. — 5 years ago

Le Piane

Boca Nebbiolo Blend 2009

First time trying Le Piane.. well not strictly true, we had a glass of their Erbaluce at the beginning of the evening. Both wines were fantastic. Was introduced by a beautiful restaurant in the mountains (Villa Pizzini). Delicious. Shall be sourcing once back in the UK. — 6 years ago

100% Erbaluce. 2016 is Santuvario's first vintage of white, named for Ivano Barbaglia's grandfather, from local variety Erbaluce (for which there is no DOC designation in Alto Piemonte). The vines are organically farmed and harvested by hand. The grapes are destemmed, fermented with native yeasts and macerated with skins for a month in a stainless steel tank. The wine is aged in steel, racked twice and bottled with minimal sulfur. Only 800 bottles produced.
