Before we take a sip, we must embrace this bouquet! The bouquet was amazing. Full of blackberries, cedar and oak. On the palet, this full bodied wine is on the dryer side but paired well with a Tuscan pizza! I guess it comes down to what you eat it with?! What strikes first on the palate is an electric streak of citrus: lemon oil, hard lime candy & tangerine zest ~ then it broadens to apricot & poached apples ~ with a gentle embrace of oak contrasted by flecks of flint

1 hour decant(decent fine/cloudy sediment). A remarkable dark purplish magenta color. On the nose: certain vintages really embrace the brett on the property, this is on the milder side. Notes of red plum, nutty vanilla, pine, funky wet earth, old leather, some cherry. Taste: smooth, delicate, silky wine with savory notes of cigar box, currants, wet dirt, peppery, little dark plum, cedar, slightly meaty. YUM! A very good vintage for Cain, a little more intensity could have increased the score even more. — 2 years ago

The East Bench from Ridge is far away from the average sugary BIB’s that is terrorizing the shelf space.
A superb wine, fruity indeed, but with a fresh elevating streak and solid grip that keeps the generous fruit in balance.
Ripe strawberries and brambly fruit profile with a defined yet balanced portion of oak with vanilla, toffee and Christmas spice that brings complexity.
Fresh acidity and a solid grip from the tannins that embrace the generous fruit profile and provides balance to the slight warming alcohol. An evolving complexity on the palate through a long finish.
Zin deserves a new chance, but choose wisely!

I laid this wine down in the cellar for a while now, thought it was time. Drinking this 2008 in 2022, it was surprising just how fresh it still was. Aged, certainly, with some bricking in color, but plenty of acidity to hold on for this amount of time. Tannins were crazy soft by this point. I really hope more WV producers embrace cool-climate syrah, and let it age like this. A great wine. — 3 years ago
