This producer has been batting 1000 recently. Nose is beautiful butterscotch and birthday cake. Plus paw paw and orange creamsicle, palate has fabulous acid and some nice minerals, also very long. Quite honeyed but with a wonderful phenolic bite, lingers unbelievably long. Great right out of the gate. — 21 days ago

A producer I’ve had a handful of times, and really find myself wondering why I’m not putting more focus/attention on Paul Lato wines.

Gorgeous translucent ruby color in the glass sporting 13.9ABV. I followed this out of the bottle over the course of a few hours and it showed well from pop all the way to the end. Profile here is restrained richness. I didn’t pick up any whole cluster/stem inclusion spice or greenness. Aromatically it is filled with cranberries, black raspberries, bright floral tones, and cracked peppercorns. Beautifully balanced on the palate with vibrant acidity. A back and forth between dark red spiced fruits and herbal/crunchy flair. Black tea and even some savory iron notes too. Still young and will improve, but this is already excellent.

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2014

The nose is made of lemon, crushed rocks, chalk and there is little touch of juicy pear that pops up after a while and when the wine is warming up slightly. We could add a tiny touch of vanilla from the barrel but it's very discreet. Lovely. This is everything I'm expecting from a 1er cru chablis. The palate is made of a massive acid backbone, almost overwhelming! There is matter to balance it but it's trodding on a very thin edge. Notes of chalk and lemon, and lemon peel are showing all around the way making for a super dynamic, vivid mouthfeel. The finish lasts for ever with this lemony and chalky notes but that vanilla touch that appeared in the rear on the nose makes a discreet comeback in the end and on the sides and that almost reminds me of white burgundies from way down south around meursault and puligny. Awesome, intellectual wine that delivers! — 8 days ago
