Symphony McLaren Vale Shiraz 2015

Beautiful black/red fruit mix. Medium to full bodied with an amazing chocolate that cycles through in waves. Lightly spiced/herbs, each taste brings something different forward. The tannin is gorgeous - fine but well-defined. Great density across the lot but still light, fresh and balanced. Would love to have tried this over a few nights - but it was gone in a couple of hours. — 2 months ago

Crozes-Ermitage Les Varonniers 2014

Chapoutier family dates back to the early 19th century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased estate and some vineyards in the now famous village of Tain l’Hermitage in Northern Rhône Valley. Ripe red berry fruit aromas. On the palate, this wine displays cherry and blackberry fruit with earthy notes, and a bit of crushed rock. Tannins are soft and savory, good balance, ending with a lingering mineral finish. Nice! — 6 months ago

Monier de La Sizeranne Hermitage Syrah 2011

Was lucky enough to try again. History of Chapoutier family dates back to the early 19th century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased estate & famous l’Hermitage vineyards. Aromas of rich red fruits and elegant spice. On the palate raspberry, cherry & currant flavors with notes of floral and oak. Firm tight Rustic tannins that ease up a bit with time, well balanced ending with spice and cedar. Very nice! Tasting Sample. Has lots of room to bottle evolve. — 4 months ago

History of Chapoutier family dates back to early 19th century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased estate & famous l’Hermitage vineyards. Deep Purple (with a little smoke on the water), 100% Grenache with aromas of dark fruit and complex exotic spice. Plum, berry & current flavors with nutty tobacco develops into sweet licorice. Tannins a bit grippy but will soften, lingering, balance ending with fruit and spice. Nice!

Wednesday Wine Committee. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. Blind as usual.

The entire room guessed Cali (Sonoma) chard. Initially, it was a dead ringer with creamy vanilla from the oak, lemon bar, and honeysuckle aromatics alongside honeyed brioche, soft cheese and sea salt. When coming back to it later, it had really lightened up and wasn’t near as heavy. Very pleasant.
