Domaine La Garrigue

Clos des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2015

Initially sooty, tarry notes with dried herbs and garrigue generally. The mid weight palate has sweet ripe red and black fruits typical of the 2015 vintage with spice and a little pepper. A lovely wine and a faithful rendition of a quality CdP. — 8 days ago

I just got reminded of the joy young CdP brings. Raspberries, liqueur, garrigue, crushed stones. Seamless. Great integration. — 8 months ago

This really developed nicely: dark ruby, no longer opaque w/minor bricking. Soaring aromas of all manner of red berry fruit, very ripe sweet spot, sweet spice, licorice, bit foresty, garrigue, - just spot on. Cohesive balanced mid-palate, lost some weight but very elegant & generous. So much raspberry, strawberry, kirsch liqueur, brambly, white pepper. Nice length on finish. This is peaking - refined example of regal CDP. — 4 years ago

Domaine du Pegau

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2013

2013 vintage. Nice fill. Excellent cork. No Durand needed. Decanted with some sed and tasted multiple times over the course of two hours. Origin story medium-heavy body now a light-medium body but with zero loss of color intensity. Primary flavors completely evacuated with secondary and tertiary flavors rushing in to fill the nature-abhorred vacuum. Initially, pretty bretty and likely too much for many...especially those not enamored with/used to such. Black olives, garrigue and cracked black pepper throughout mitigated the sweaty saddle and in serious leather (apologies to Frank Zappa) tendencies in the first hour. Overt, bretty notes dissipated after 45 minutes, This particular wine and vintage at the zenith/absolute top of its' particular bell curve and tastes like it can hover there another 5-6 years without drop-off or apology. 10.28.25. — a month ago

@Pinotman /// Andreas Oh I bet. I’m sure Zappa and the band live was quite the experience.

@Doug Powers 1990 was a banging vintage. Hoping the storage/provenance is solid. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2022

Decanted about an hour in advance and enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2022 Cuvée Réservée pours a deep ruby color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of ripe and tart bramble fruits: blackberries, Marionberries, raspberries, “Oops All Berries!!”, garrigue, red and purple flowers, black pepper, licorice, a balance of cool and warm spices, river rock. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from nose; particularly the power and quality of fruit. The finish is long. Early days for the 2022 Cuvée Réservée but holy smokes is it already pretty special. The ABV is a scorching 16% but you would never know it. The power and freshness of fruit with the titanic structure keep everything in balance. Drink now through 2042. — 8 months ago

Château de Saint-Cosme

Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of dinner which lasted a couple do hours. The 2015 pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of powerful ripe red and dark fruit: black brambles, dark cherries, black pepper, boozy Christmas fruitcake, licorice, garrigue, leather and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with sneaky medium+ tanning that build with air. The acid is there too although I wouldn’t call it the main character. It does, however, play a strong supporting roll. Definitely a wine of texture. It has been a handful of years since my last bottle of the 2015 and it’s evolving very nicely! Secondary flavors are starting to show and everything remains balanced. Extended air did get it to freshen up a bit so I’d say this still has a long life ahead. Drink now with a healthy decant and through 2035. — 10 months ago

I enjoyed this as well but thought the ‘98 Pegau I had drank recently was the more correct bottle age for this producer. 94 pts Robert Parker, $79.99 from K&L.
