Medium-dark reddish-purple color, spicy, brambly black raspberry aromas and flavors, some underlying faint herbal notes show as well, compared to the 2023 opened alongside, younger, fresher, very fruit forward, reminds me of where the 2023 was a few years ago, a perfect pizza wine or midweek Zinfandel, kudos to Morgan, Chris and Cody!! — 15 days ago

Very hipster tattoo styled label. 52% Petite Verdot, 25% Cab Sauv, 23% Malbec. Dark, dark maroon color. Aroma is gravel and molasses. Maybe a hint of berry. Flavors are beefy and big. Lots of dried black cherry. Some molasses. Tannins are well represented. Has that classic Matchbook herbal streak. This went well with the lamb and mushroom dish I made. A great blend. Blend of mostly Merlot with a little Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with aromas of ripe dark fruits, sweet spice and espresso notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and black cherry with toasty oak, cacao and espresso. Fine soft tannins, long finish ending with fruit, oak and sweet pepper spice. This recently released 2020 Blend of Syrahs from historic vineyards across California is a rich purple in the glass, doesn’t open with much of a nose, and delivers a smooth, rich mouthfeel with hints of violet and a little oak. Maybe not the greatest of vintages for this wine but still an easy drinking wine and a great value at +/-$25. Update 3/25: Some three years later this has developed nicely with a big nose of dark fruit and underbrush, and a palate with similar fruit, earth, minerality and maybe a hint of licorice. Wow, I have been missing out… First time tasting Blaufränkisch and impressed! The deep rusty red brick red wine has aromas of wild blueberries, violets and potting soil. Rich blackberry, raspberry, cherry, dark chocolate loaded with allspice, cinnamon and pepper notes. I love the boisterous acidity, dense structure and prominent tannins. I imagine this would go nicely with smoked sausage, Gailtaler Almkäsewiener cheese, schnitzel, red cabbage and spaetzle. — 6 years ago

Actually a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (77%), Merlot (12%), Malbec (5%), Cabernet Franc (4%) Petite Verdot (2%). Dark ruby color with some purple highlights. Aroma of ripe black fruit, violets, cedar and burnt caramel. Flavors of black berry/currant/plum fruit, black tea, savory herbs and spices. Opaque dark violet with clear meniscus.. couldn’t have told this is 12 yrs old looking at the wine in the glass. Medium viscosity. oak-spiced, red and blue fruit, chocolate, tobacco and floral pastille aromas.  Mocha and vanilla flourish. Plush, velvety and broad mouthfeel, it offers sweet cassis and blackberry flavors with a long spice and oak finish. Rich and energetic in style, medium acidity, resolved medium minus tannins and medium alcohol. Delicious expression of a high quality CA cab. I like this much better than bold and high ABV CA cabs. This ancient vineyard (planted from 1888 - 1895) carries roughly 26-29 varieties (who knows…?). The wine usually comprises about 50% of Zinfandel, also quite some Carignan, Mataro, Syrah and Petite Sirah. Furthermore, there are dollops of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Bouschet, Peloursin, Trousseau, Calmette… Just to name a few. The label proudly proclaims that this particular vintage was the 127th (!) year of existence of these vines and 19 different variaties were included in the blend.
When poured in a glass I notice a bright ruby semi-translucent colour with no signs of aging. A beautiful nose of dark fruit (cassis and plum), peppery oriental spice, vanilla, cigar, cedar, toasty oak and a hint of orangepeel.
The palate has sufficient acidity, medium-plus tannines and a long and distinguished finish.
A great wine, drinking at its peak.

OMG was this good. Surprisingly accessible in its infancy. The wine is clear and light colored red with very mild tannins. Loaded with dark berries, both the sweet and acidic side. As it got a bit more air, the 65% Zin in the blend showed through with delicious jammy-ness. The rest of this shipment go in the cellar for a least a few years.. — 6 years ago
