Château Pontet Reynaud

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Good god. Peaking right now.
Huge aromatics on the nose. Superb weight, balance and texture. No rush to consume. Cedar and macerated black cherries transition to coffee and hints of maple. Blew me away. In raptures over this. Direct from the winery when I lived in Europe.

@David T, those are relevant and salient insights. For me, when I purchase wines I'm not familiar with, I look to balanced critics for guidance. Most of the high-end wines I purchase, I don't need much critical input. Wines such as Pontet, Ducru, Troplong, The Pichons, Leovilles et al., I'm more comfortable buying, unless the growing season is a disaster. Here in my opinion, the critics value is amplified. Happy holidays, bud! @ESF, no rush my friend...

All great input! I agree WS is advantaged with the blind review but WA is always more detailed. There are definite patterns as WA loves the turbo charged but I find PP to be the most helpful but they generally are European only. It’s like finding a movie critic. No one is the best but you find the one that matches your tastes the closest and use it to help make best choices. Love the dialog!

Château Serilhan

St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Last night we opened the 2019 Château Sérilhan Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois Supérior Médoc. Left Bank Bordeaux blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot by Doctor Alain Reynaud.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, black currant, mint, licorice, pencil shavings, cedar and earth.

On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, green bell pepper, licorice, menthol, graphite and earth.

This is a beautiful medium to full bodied wine with a smooth succulent mouthfeel medium to medium+ acidity and medium + fine grained tannins that leaves you with a medium + to long dark fruit rich earth finish. Enjoy yourselves this weekend, have some fine wines with family and friends and please stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

I thought this was better than the average review. Ripe, with a distinct brambly, beefy note. Distinctly earthy. Good cost/benefit ratio as well. — 14 days ago

For Margaret L visit with NC barbecue. Deep forest floor and leaves and mushroom notes, spicy lively palate and long finish. Terrific. Better take care of remaining bottles. — 9 months ago

Neal never stops impressing!!! Would have guessed Bordeaux all the way. 1hr+ decant. Nose of dark cherries, cedar, and menthol. Blue and black fruit on the palate with well integrated alcohol. Medium depth and medium plus finish. Reminds me of Chateau Pontet-Canet but 1/5 of the price. Neal rocks!! — 3 years ago

La Pialade de Rayas Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend 2019

Love these wines! So allocated it's been a long time since I've had the Pialade from Emmanuel Reynaud and the Rayas estate! There can be lots of bottle variation but this was a good one. — 4 months ago

This is a beautiful White Rhone!
But…. First signs of oxidation are peaking through.
So… drink and enjoy them now if you got some.

Réserve Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Red Rhone Blend 2016

Flash decant this time as usually I open up the “Reynaud wines” a few hours in advance. We started drinking slowly but right away the aromas were very expressive and they opened up slowly to reveal multiple layers of red fruit, spices. I can discern some Grenache to my Burgundian palate but brely, the wine is powerful but approchable at this toung stage, nice freshness and great texture of tannins with an impressive length for a “vin de pays”. 90-91
