Last night we opened the 2019 Château Sérilhan Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois Supérior Médoc. Left Bank Bordeaux blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot by Doctor Alain Reynaud.
On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, black currant, mint, licorice, pencil shavings, cedar and earth.
On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, green bell pepper, licorice, menthol, graphite and earth.
This is a beautiful medium to full bodied wine with a smooth succulent mouthfeel medium to medium+ acidity and medium + fine grained tannins that leaves you with a medium + to long dark fruit rich earth finish. YUM. Red berries and earth. It’s a little cloying right after you open it, but in 10 minutes it mellows out into an amazing red to pair with hearty food on a chilly night.

Perfect wine for a steak dinner on Christmas Eve. Wonderful finish with a fruit forward taste, very smooth.

Drank the 2016 it never really opened up but the fruit was very intense. My friends liked it more than I liked it.

Nose: dark berries, warm spices, varnish, some plant I can’t identify, plum. Some tobacco?
Taste: tasty, but not as good or as interesting as the professional reviews claimed. Seems one dimensional to me - regular inexpensive bordeaux. Medium weight, a little bitter - a little vegetal, even - perhaps it needs more air or age. Was hoping for more, given the price ($22?) and praise. Won’t bother again. 89.

12/2021. Enjoyed this wine with my meal at Black Rooster. Escargot and lamb. Smooth and easy to drink.
