Popped and poured. The 2015 Castell’In Villa CC pours a bright ruby with medium+ viscosity, no staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing, with notes of tart cherries, some ripe BO (but I kinda like it?), spiced meat, dried herbs and dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, tart and has some great minerals giving the impression of freshness and, well, elegance. A solid expression of the Castelnuovo Berardenga UGA. Drinking well now but I think that’s more the generosity of the 2015 vintage than maturity. Drink now with some patience and over the next 5-10 years. — 6 months ago
Lovely aromatics, ripe red fruit, internationally pleasing. Organic wine. Big, fruity, med+ acid, med- tannin, nice balance with hint of herbaceousness. Quite different than the benchmark CC style. $65 — 2 years ago
A unique style of CC with minerality leading throughout. There’s pure, intense cherry fruit on the nose, but it takes a back seat to the quarry activity. Same thing goes for the palate. Very intense minerality. Structurally there is quite a bit of soft, chalky tannin and decent acids. The finish ends minerally and with a slight bitter note. Very good, but not the most elegant rendition. Maybe give it a year or two more to come together. — 3 months ago
Light gold color, youthful appearance in the glass. Great CC nose with notes of citrus, ginger, reddish clay, wet stones and tan spice. Fruit still very present, matched against some fine-grained acidity. Awesome mouth feel. I know some of these can go south sooner rather than later, but this was right in the zone - youthful with plenty of energy. Great showing tonight. — 2 years ago
Pale ruby color. Aromas of raspberry... can’t unsmell the bubble gum wrapper @John Howard ! And rose stems. Fantastic flavors, loads of red fruit and a gorgeous finish. — 3 years ago
The precision and pencil lead generated a Bordeaux vibe-driven Sangiovese that was so long and perfectly tart I was tasting this half hour after the last drop. Majestic sour cherries in one of the nicest CC-GSs I’ve ever had. Needed 45 min decant. Props to @Jay Kline on this one: “Bravissimo” indeed! — 6 months ago
young but wanted to try since the wife ordered white burgundy and Boillot is occasionally premoxed. Not this bottle. Started out quiet, took a little time to unfurl and then: wow. Really great soft layered texture, like drinking mercury. Very intense and concentrated citrus and minerals, steely like CC should be, acid that tightens up the whole package and drives it like a laser into and through the palate. Then it just fans out and hits every nook and cranny. Fireworks! Super wine. — 9 months ago
Popped and poured; DIAM cork. The 2015 Casa Emma CC pours a deep ruby color with a translucent but near opaque core with no obvious staining of the tears. Medium viscosity. On the nose, medium+ intensity with notes of super funky cherry (not Brett), dried herbs, porcini, menthol and cardamom. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Finish is medium and satisfying. Confirmed are the notes of cherry accompanied by dusty earth notes and orange bitters. Drink now and enjoy. — 2 years ago
