Happy Valentine’s Day! Continuing our tradition of pulling one of these each year - 11 down, only 1 more to go after this! Reminder that we need to choose a new case of something soon.
This is excellent as always but I’m not sure hits quite the same high note as last year’s bottle. Fine mousse, nose a bit more restrained. Palate is explosive and so deep with wonderful candied caramelized lemon peel. Wonderful pairing with carbonara! — 9 months ago

Wine of the night. Big bold and excellent pairing with duck and morels. Nice concentration but balanced with some fruit and not syrupy. Had some lift and life to it without being too dense. Nice finish — 6 months ago
A bit over its peak — 2 months ago
The 2019 Poujeaux, tried here for the first time from half bottle, continues the trend of wines that I’ve enjoyed from this vintage – being austere, deep, full bodied and demanding considerable bottle age. With no decant, the wine is almost impenetrable on the nose, offering little other than gravel, singed tobacco, and espresso. Gradually, though, things open up in the glass and after an hour it’s fairly expressive. It remains dark, tannic and laden with coffee, chocolate and steeped black fruit, but doubtless there’s a promising wine somewhere here that’ll likely begin to emerge in five years or so – Poujeaux tends to have a long life, and I’d expect that to be the case here. — 4 months ago

An outstanding bottle similar to the previous times I have had it. 3 hour slow ox and then decanted at dinner. Went brilliantly with white truffles! Had the Caprili with the veal and the body may have suited the veal but the Soldera was the WOTN — 19 days ago
