Just about perfect, tons of tannins, dryness and fruit — a year ago
Classic Mt Veeder small berry signature. — 2 years ago
Cherry, raspberry preserves, currant, stewed fruit, blackberry and oak. Full-bodied and moderate tannins. — 3 years ago
25 year anniversary of this wine. I have been a Peter Franus fan for a long time. This zin is medium ruby, black and white pepper, clove, cedar, red cherry, vanilla on the nose--the wood is definitely pushing through, but not overpowering. On the palate, more blue/black fruit emerges, blackberry mainly. Tannins still pretty dry, alcohol high. I think this can rest even longer but it's great now too. Awesome!!!

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2018 Brandlin Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon pours a deep garnet color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with a classic mountain fruit profile: a mix of tart and ripe currants, blackberries, purple flowers, tobacco, inorganic earth and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Well balanced and charming. Drink now through 2038. — 5 months ago
Brandlin Estate Mount Veeder Estate Cuvée 2019, Napa Valley, California
It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Strong nose of blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, diet coke, dark chocolates, light earth, tobacco leaf, herbs, light spices, black pepper.
Full-bodied and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and very fruity on the palate with black currants, black plums, stewed cherries, chocolates, cedar, coffee, tobacco, cola, light earth, herbs, peppercorn, licorice and green tea.
Long spicy finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.
This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Mount Veeder. Elegant and robust. Spicy and entertaining.
Well balanced with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Rich and extracted. The high alcohol is well integrated by now.
Good right out of the bottle, and much better after 2 hours in the decanter.
This 5 year old will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years, with good potential to become a 94 point wine.
Easy drinking and very tasty. Loved the complexity on the nose and kept smelling on it.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.
A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Zinfandel, 7.5% Petit Verdot and 7.5% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (33% new) French Oak barrels for 20 months.
14.9% alcohol by volume.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2021 Mataro “Napa County” pours a deep ruby/purple with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful showing abundant, gorgeous dark fruits: blackberry and marionberry, purple flowers, cocoa, black pepper, stony minerals and soft baking spices. In the palate, medium+ tannins with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose and there is a long, spicy finish. FWIW, I typically feel the Sandlands Mataros need a bit of time in the cellar. This version from the Brandlin Vineyard is delicious and already pretty easy to enjoy. Drink now with some patience but this can easily age for 15-20 years. — 2 years ago
Well balanced and mostly secondary. Black fruit takes a back seat to graphite. Tannins still need time to soften — 4 years ago
Wild and bramble with brisk red fruit. Tasty. — 4 years ago
PF 2014 Brandlin Estate Zinfandel c/o Mount Veeder.
We’re talking grandma’s homemade jam, balsamic reduction and a whiff of gasoline. Some heat on the backend but nothing a few years won’t take care of for you. Very pleasing and an entirely hedonistic experience for those that like to wrestle in the grass. — 6 years ago
Pale lemon in color with golden hue.
Strong nose of gooseberries, limes, grapefruits, herbs, green apples, light wood, spices, earth and light minerals.
Full-bodied with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with limes, lemons, grapefruits, green apples, vegetables, spices, bitter herbs and white pepper.
Tangy finish with limes and spices.
This is a very enjoyable Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley. Rich, complex and elegant. Showing lots of earth notes, which surprised me a bit.
Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years and see how it evolves.
A good food wine that I paired with an Italian seafood pasta dish.
100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes were aged in (50% new) French Oak barrels for 11 months. A small production of only 15 barrels.
14.2% alcohol by volume.
90 points.
