Bomb Wines

Belle Glos

Clark & Telephone Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

This IS Santa Barbara County Pinot! First taste was a big burst of fruit. Not too sweet, not simple and unsophisticated, not a jammy Zin bomb, mind you. Instead, more like a zing of bright, pure, winey fruit. Remarkable and memorable. We had the 2022 vintage in a magnum bottle so perhaps that helped preserve its freshness and purity. We enjoyed this Big Mama at the Palm Restaurant in downtown LA, celebrating my daughter Rachel’s graduation from UCLA Law School. Congratulations, Rachel! — 7 months ago

Château de Beaucastel

Coudoulet de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend 2016

Fruit bomb toned down after an hour (aerate). From there on kirsch and stewed fruit, subtle herbs and firm acidity as a counterweight. A fantastic coudoulet, outpacing many cndp’s. — 5 years ago

Austin Hope

Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

This wine gives new meaning to the Dutch expression “Dikke Sjaak”. Warm red fruit, cherry bomb, a hint of broth. — 8 months ago

School House Vineyard

Mezcolanza Zinfandel Blend 2012

Threw a ton of sediment. A lighter colored zin- not a big alcoholic fruit bomb. This has finesse and character. Some minerally component. This is the tailback, not the tackle. Loved it. Thanks bro. — 5 years ago

With burgers. Good structure under that fruit without being a bomb or overly tannic. — 5 years ago
