School House Vineyard
Mezcolanza Zinfandel Blend
This winery’s Zins age beautifully. Color is still youthful. Complex nose shows earthy dark berry fruit, spice, sandalwood. Almost Bordeaux-like in the mouth. Dry, savory, some spicy blackberry fruit, and a minerally finish. Dry, with nice acids.

Mar 18th, 2024I had this recently so I won’t do the full Monty on the notes, but damn this old school Zin is good!

Jul 2nd, 2020Watchin’ the Celts and drinking a decidedly old school Zin. Only 13.2%, the grapes originate from rocky mountain terroir. Classic Zin nose of brambly, inky blackberry, and cracked rock minerality. In the mouth is where it diverges from most current-day fruit bomb Zins. It’s relatively lean, with noticeable dynamic structure and great acids. The fruit is there, but it doesn’t smother other aspects of the wine. Retro in the best way. This would absolutely strut with tagliatelle in bolognese or papardelle with duck sauce.

Nov 8th, 2019Quite possibly one of the most singular expressions of Zinfandel I have ever tasted and unquestionably going to be misunderstood by most who drink it. This is not a Zinfandel drinker’s Zinfandel. It’s too acidic; too mineral driven; too light on its feet. And yet, I was absolutely charmed by it! Particularly when I paired it with pomegranate marinated rack of lamb. At 7 years old, it’s just now entering its drinking window. I would expect this to be enjoyable for at least another 7 years and perhaps longer.

Mar 26th, 2020Beautiful rich wine one would expect from spring Mtn. 100 year old vines deeply pull that gravel terroir!
