Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. On the nose, the wine is developing with fabulous notes of ripe and tart, mixed brambles, blueberries, figs, lavender, a touch of animale, black pepper, rocky earth and fine, warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(?) tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This seemed to get younger the longer it was exposed to air. The Benjamin Button of wine, lol. Might even rate it higher down the road. Lovely with kofta on a Thursday. Drink now through 2045+. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass — 3 months ago

This whiskey is matured in charred bourbon barrels.

Nose - banana and toffee. Palate- caramel and toasted oak.

Makes a good cocktail with fresh lime and ginger ale.

Twice this venomous viper has evaded review. She jumps out and thrashes, coils round and inculcates. A devil of a bite too! Seductive, deceptive nose of caramel creme, rosemary, bay leaf and cinnamon roll. Palatal acupuncture ensues, as you slowly succumb to the hot cinnamon oil and scotch bonnet burn of the first phase. Phase two brings cinnamon and grilled peach with brown sugar cobbles and scotch bonnet honey. And finally the nose and close converge in satin vanilla, cinnamon, cracked black pepper and ginger. .

Definitely still in its drinking window, As is often said to be the case with older zin & zin blends, however, it’s more like a claret than a zinfandel. Subdued fruit notes are woven with earth, button mushroom, and black tea, atop silky smooth tannins. Just a wisp of spice on the close. A nice way to start off a few 25th anniversary year wines. — 7 years ago

1 hour decant(little fine/cloudy sediment). A fabulous medium garnet with some bricking. On the nose: beautiful areomatics jump from the glass with dark cherry, worn leather, herbaceous, planting soil, stewed prunes, dark chocolate. Taste: silky smooth, creamy, regal mouthcoating wine with some dark cherry, balsamic, dark chocolate, black tea, earth, and a peppery graphite long rich finish. YUM!! One complaint... Hate the metal button glued to the top of the bottle...pain to take off in order to get to the cork. — 8 months ago

300 cases made. Ruby red, very good clarity, moderate to heavy pigment extraction. Rich flavor profile, slightly oily with black currant, cherry, raspberry notes in mouth. Light mouth coating tannins on finish. Mint and herb aftertaste. Nice complexity though fruit intensity seems lighter than tannin and alcohol levels. I like the acidity, not too low or high. Still highly ageable overall. After one hour, fruit expression intensifies, so decant at least that long — 3 years ago

It can hardly get more pure than this--basically, this is Fortaleza Blanco direct from the still. Distillery tasting notes: "Aromas of fruit, baked fully-ripened agave, green olive, and earth are invitingly present. Slightly brighter and a touch more rustic than the regular blanco, the accents of butter, olive, earth, black pepper, and vegetal qualities in the flavor are enhanced because it comes straight from our small copper pot still, without adding water prior to bottling." — 5 years ago

On open ....Glorious 2015 fruit. Black cherries. Spice. Maybe a kiss of licorice. Long sweet finish. Super tasty but not super complex at this point. Integrated tanins. Crazy silky on the palate. ... after an hour there Are sick flowers peeking out from under the covers. Candied lilacs ? Palate getting sick and more complex. Like this concentrated licorice flower on the finish Odd because it doesnt present as tannic or woody like most wines that are too young. ... 2.5 hours in this is much more serious. Like a brooding teenager a bit. More young and correct cherries. More apparent structure. Tanins are more present. Bizarre. Almost like a Benjamin button wine a bit. — 7 years ago

Aka Batchelor’s Button, 300 cases made. Dense to opaque purple-red. Oak and a hint of eucalyptus on the nose initially. Red fruit - raspberry, cherry - followed by seed tannins on finish. Needs time to open. Black currant and black cherry flavors strengthen after 90 minutes, seed tannins settle, less muddy. — 3 years ago

“Remarkable when good. Almost always rustic. Let’s see how the bottle opens up tonight.”

DC’s comment pretty much sums up my somewhat limited experience with the wines of Lorenzo Accomasso, and evidently this bottle has done little to change our opinion. While it was certainly the most complex number of the night as it was constantly evolving with air, the level of volatile acidity in the 13’ Riserva Rocche dell’Annunziata was really testing my limits. Having said that, if my more extensive experience with the wines of Musar is of any relevance, this is bound to do a Benjamin Button and freshen up with another decade in the cellar.

Opened some 5 hours before our tasting session, it was all dark and brooding in the first pour. Plums, mocha, spiced meat, and leather aromas, all enveloped in a rather pesky sheen of acetone. Subsequent pours seemed to bring more elegance with aromas of dark red cherries, licorice, dusty rose petals, and even hints of iodine developing. The acetone note was somewhat tamer later in the night, though still very much discernible. The palate mirrors the nose - all dark fruits, leather, tar, sweet spices, and a touch of VA warmth at the start; more red-fruits, licorice, and heaps of black tea by the end of the night. Concentrated and beautifully textured, with fine yet austere tannins. Overall, a bottle I’m grateful to drink and ponder, but best to keep others under locks for another decade. — 3 years ago

Unreal herbaceous depth here where rosemary and allspice hide their monstrous love child. Black, white and green peppercorns blast from a hollowed core sample of graphite, and igneous matter just above the roof of hell. But fear not mystic traveller, this is simply the expanse that shields the event horizon through which our universe has fallen. Yes, we are scorched and terrified, our very bone marrow boiling, our teeth dressed in ash cloth and dusty black earth, here is the golden hand of life pulling us back slowly, with tangerine lavas, smoldering lemon oils, to cardamom, hazelnut oil, the oxidative brawn of sherry, toffee, mocha and finally the cool kiss of mint, as we leave the burning sands and cross into the unexpected joy of the dangerous jungle. Better here in the tangle of living cruelty, where there is shade and dark water. — 7 years ago
