Bad Canstatt

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Decanted and simmered for hours. By Hour 3+ this broadened into a deep and luxurious wine. Ripe fruit - currant blackberry. Nice mouthfeel with some mineral residue. Not a long tail on this but it did linger still. Not particularly fragrant. A bit inward overall but all the pieces good and bad kinda fit together and it was nonetheless quite enjoyable. — 2 months ago

Last place - bottle I brought :) Not bad but tannic and medium depth. Cherries and earth dominate. Overpriced. — 2 years ago

Daou Vineyards

Pessimist Paso Robles Red Blend

Consumed 2/2019. The bottle has a quote on it that I like. It says a pessimist is never disappointed. Made me giggle. So I bought it and tried it. Not bad. Alc. 15.5% by vol. — 5 years ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2013

Some specials on today at the Chelsea lounge at JFK. Thought I’d ask and look what we got. It doesn’t have as much of the typical Dom taste for me and it is still very very young, definitely still a baby. Great nose and packs a lot of citrusy flavors - they will certainly mellow over the years. Not a bad rendition, not quite hitting the super high marks with me right now, but very pleasant early p.m. bubbly on this holiday — 2 months ago

Revana Family Vineyard

St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Heidi Barrett put this winery on the map. Lush red fruit with subtle tannins that are multi tiered. Has years to continue to mature. Their wines have not stayed at this level since Heidi left. Too bad!! — 2 years ago

Ets Thunevin

Mauvais Garçon (Bad Boy) Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

An easy everyday Bordeaux as it’s affordable. Very fruit forward with spice but finish is lacking. — 3 years ago

Grey Wolf Cellars

Big Bad Wolf Zinfandel Blend 1999

This was the 1999 Barton Family Reserve zin. Not the big bad wolf. Couldn’t find this in the DB. Amazed it held up. Very soft for a zin, closer to a Pinot, plum, cloves, earth, apricot. — 5 years ago

World's End

Good Times, Bad Times Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

I am a fan of the World’s End family of wines and I enjoyed this one. A little chewy and dense but nice flavors. — 3 months ago

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

2000 vintage. Decanted and tasted over the course of 1.5 hours. Expected amount of sed. Chunky, unresolved nose. Medium body. Still too youthful. Would try to give it another 7-10 years if possible. Initial tree branches/greenery dipping into morning fresh water morphed into classic graphite/lead pencil after 45 mins in the decanter. There was a slight metallic streak on the finish that appeared about 20 minutes in and still hadn't dissipated after 1.5 hours. More nimble than the og bad boys from this estate ('86, '88, '89, '90) and a bit less weighty. Mostly positives along with a few (mostly) minor quibblings. A ways to go, tho, before hitting the summit this estate established four decades ago. 9.24.23. — 7 months ago
