Pétalos Bierzo Mencía 2021

Since moving to Barcelona, I’ve been looking for wines that dare to use varietals that are not the same handful of French clones one sees all over the world. I’m also looking for lighter wines, which my wife prefers. This fit the bill perfectly: 100% Mencía @ 13.5% ABV and highly recommended by the botiga in my barri. Delicate and earthy. Hints of ripe plums and peppercorns. — 14 days ago

Dominio de Pingus

PSI Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2021

10/2024. Dry and good fruit. Nice on the palate.

Bodegas y Viñedos Vega Sicilia

Unico Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 1996

A Giacometti sculpture of a wine, seemingly of shape, structure, balance and beauty impossible to describe if not experienced. A superfine beam of black tea tannins infused with strawberry fruit and gentle spice. Layers of compote, orange zest and lively acidity in perfect, stunning balance. — a month ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Part of a Chateau Mouton Rothschild vertical from 1988-1990. Early on, this was a probably my favorite of the three Moutons and showed well throughout the course of the evening. Expressive red and dark forest fruits with tobacco, leather, earth and baking spices. The structure was still showing its tensile strength. This has a long life ahead. Drink now through 2040. — 14 days ago
