Not what I was hoping for,
Gave it some air but not too much so that we didn’t lose the sweet spot. Didn’t touch the Shafer until this was finished. Just a typical older Bordeaux blend from Napa but very ordinary considering the price point. Secondary market purchase so who knows prior storage. — 7 months ago

Shafer Winemaker Elias Fernandez & his “relentless” pursuit of quality. A blend of 86% Syrah & 14% Petite Sirah, shows a lush & rich wine. Aged for 30 months, 100% new French oak, deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruit & hint of smoke and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum & blueberry with notes of vanilla, cacao and smoke. Fine silky tannins, long finish, great mouthfeel ending with fruit, herbs and spice. One of the best Syrah’s tasted. Aging well! — 6 months ago
The ’18 is a blend of a blend of 56% Merlot, 21% Malbec, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22 months on new French oak, blend changes each year. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits, sweet spice and smoky oak scents. On the palate flavors of black cherry, blueberry and plums with vanilla, licorice and cacao, lively acidity. Fine ripe round tannins, well balanced, long finish ending with fruit, tobacco and toasty earthy character. Outstanding! — 5 months ago
Nose: raspberry, blackberry, cassis (?), dust. Subtle herbs, the kind you’d find in some kind of health food herbal tea for what ails you. A little leather.
Taste: absolutely delicious. Weighty, tastes as it smells, but bigger and juicier more red fruit than the nose - yet very balanced, with lots of mineral flavors besides. Not as complex as the very best I’ve had, but extremely tasty. A little more toasty coffee on the palate as you sip it. I may like this better than the Shafer I had recently. 94.
