The Antinori family of Florence, one of the world's oldest and most distinguished wine producers, has lived in Tuscany since the 14th century. Blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cab Sauv & 5% Cab Franc. Deep Ruby, aromas of black berry fruit aromas with herb, mint and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with cacao, vanilla and aromatic spice. Fine graceful tannins, long finish, well balanced, savory ending with oak and juicy earthy mineral tones. Very Nice! — a day ago
I am a complete fan for this wine and producer. I have enjoyed different vintages and it has been a very consistent joy. This one is no different. Despite a crumbly cork.. the wine was a survivor! Rich perfume from the start. It’s special and it’s deep. Love the classic Barolo color. Purple at center brightening from there to orange at the rim. It’s still clear when you swirl to look through it and it has excellent lines. This wine has weight and heft. It lingers on the palate and covers with depth and an array of flavors and feels. My most obvious assessor applies to this wine. I can always tell what I like best by how fast it goes. This went down lightning fast. It opened well and because the cork was garbage it required a decant which I likely would have done anyway… Seventeen years in I would say this one has matured to its near peak. Fantastic bottle of wine. — 5 days ago
Update Day 2: I really liked this even more on day as everything grew on the below from day 1, the palate and the intensity all went up 2 notches! This exceeds the really good 2018 and should easily have the stuffing to age which is why this grape is getting so much attention in Barolo these days.
Day 1: I just tasted this last night, I got into a bottle and will see how it evolves over a few days. Preliminarily this is really good, better than the very good 2018 I last had at this stage, as it should be as it's a better vintage. The nose is med/med+, as this grape is typically more pronounced in flavor than aroma, where the flavors here are more med+. The coravin glass I had opened up nicely over 30 minutes, deepening with notes of apples and peach, a light background touch of honey and almonds, subtle and elegant minerality underpins it all. Med+ finish shows the texture this grape is know for in a med+ weight. — a day ago
On to the reds. My first time with a full bottle , previously only had “pours”. I am judging this wine for what it is vs what I prefer to drink. Clearly a new world wine but not a fruit bomb . Wonderful concentration of fruit on the nose and palate . Of course oak is there but it is handled perfectly. Alcohol is shy. A beautiful satisfying wine that is so easy to drink with our steaks. I would love to taste this with another 10 years in the bottle. — 15 days ago
Another solid vintage of this Sardinian Grenache based wine. Bright ruby color. Beautiful aromas of violets, crushed gravel and dark fruit. The pallet is also full of ripe dark fruit and wild herbs with a hint of Chinese five spice on the finish. Oak is in the background. Well structured, bright acidity and nicely balanced. — 16 days ago
