Garnet medium intensity. Herbs, spearmint, fossils on the nose. Dry, medium plus alc, medium plus acidity, medium bodied. Sour cherry, herbs, on the palate. Tannins are chalky and drying. Long nice finish. This will of course greatly improve. But certainly drinkable now.

Sipping Fine Wine

Aldo Vaira took control of the family vineyards in 1968, when he was just 15 years old. Today, G.D. Vajra consists of 150 acres, mostly around the commune of Barolo.
Ruby with a rich bouquet of fruit, spices and floral notes, fruit from several vineyards, aged 26 months in Slavonian oak casks. On the palate flavors of cherry and raspberry with notes of pepper, cinnamon and floral, slight earthy notes. Long finish, nice balance with fine soft tannins ending with earthy floral notes. Enjoyable now, a few more years will benefit.

I would have guessed Brunello rather than Barolo — a little lighter than expected. Granite, rose, violet, red fruit, Italianate acidity - but not overly complex. Enjoyable. Just squeaks into 91. Not a great value for the $35 I paid.

Delicious and zippy, nice contrast of juicy red fruits and earthy, vegetal notes. Drinking great now and has a lot of structure for staying power!

Not ready yet. Beautiful wine, but this needs some cellar time.

Pale ruby in color; bright cherries, black tea, and potpourri on the nose; medium plus acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like cranberries, raspberries, and clay pots with a long finish. Nellie didn't like it, Thy says it's gross, Jason says it's ok, I like it, and Wine Spectator ranked it as number 9 in its top 100 list of wines for 2024.
