A blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cab Sauv, Dark Ruby with aromas of black fruit, cacao and herbs. On the palate blackberry, cherry and ripe plum flavors with tobacco and oak notes. Fine soft tannins with a medium finish, ending with a savory and earthy oak character. Drink now, at its peak. — a month ago
The nose is full throttle from the get-go—a surprise reminding me of my recent trip to Magic Mountains, as West Coast Racers is a roller coaster with no slow-burn climb uphill. Oh no—you zoom out the gates and go through a series of twisty-windy loops and it’s a shock to your system but then you’re like “let’s do it again!”
And so with this. That explosive nose is savory and earthy like a blackberry compote kissed by a forest spirit. On the palate the tannins are the epitome of velvety and well-integrated. I get all the aromas of the nose here, plus some more red fruit. And vanilla. And then again with almost an…iodine herb thing I always associate with Italian wines, no matter the grape. And then a hint of…Montenegro? Is this the wine for both roller coaster and amaro aficionados? Stand-up Merlot. Do it. — 15 days ago
Great with pasta — 19 days ago
Great drinking window about 10 years old. The usual and then the maturity kisses it with char and olives. Perfect with home Italian night of sautéed pasta (non tomato based… all the other good stuff… because sometimes the tomato steals too much show, even from the wine). — 4 days ago
This was my first bottle i tasted from Stella and i remember comparing it to an Echezeaux, but it has gone nwxt level up in body and complexity
I know it's a Rosso, but it feels like a huge Brunello with extra power.
Rasperry, leather, balsamic and licorice which are what you look for in a Brunello..plus wild strawberries, white plums, blood orange and nectarines...black truffle, cola, bay leaves, cardamom and soy sauce..and more trust me...in the mouth it's a refined sangiovese grosso vibrant, in tension and super enjoyable.
Had a little bruise on the label and didn't make it to the auction...
Sublime..made me so happy
At peak and perhaps also for many more years too — 11 days ago
PnP’d. Dark red color with orangish rims. Rust, blood, and heat on the nose. Not a lot of fruit, more earthy, smoky, and tannic on the palate. Medium minus finish. For not liking Italian wines, this wasn’t bad. Drink sooner rather than later. — 6 days ago
We’ve tried and loved La Spinetta wines before and so we had to open this Vermentino on National White Wine Day! @la_spinetta
It is a pale lemon hue. It offers a bouquet of vibrant, youthful aromas including honeydew, white peach, mandarin orange, grapefruit peel, passion fruit, honeysuckle, jasmine, almond, mineral, and sea breeze notes.
On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium(+) acidity, a medium body, medium alcohol, and present albeit less intense notes on the palate that are otherwise consistent with the nose. The finish is medium.
This wine is clean, offers intensity on the nose, elegance on the palate, with equal parts flavor, acidity, and alcohol to form a well-balanced wine that is positively delightful.
La Spinetta, Toscana Vermentino IGT, Italy, Vintage 2020, ABV 13%.
