Weiss & Grau Burgunder Weißburgunder Grauburgunder 2022

Very accessible orange wine without any hint of being overly “natural”. Crisp and the bit of skin contact gives it just enough body and texture to be interesting. — a month ago

Liaison Pinot Noir 2020

Beautiful wine mellowed out! Touch volatile acid which blows off fast. 13.5%. Seems ripe. Plums on the nose. Plums, strawberries, touch cherries, orange zest. Quite rich and big for E&M. Perfect! Sweet Pinot fruit. I would drink up this vintage. 2020 was the second warmest year in Germany since 1881 and it shows! I don’t expect this wine to further improve or last a decade. It is great now. — 11 days ago

Abts E de Riesling 2007

This trip to Melbourne has been a 07’ riesling galore! Another incredible Keller, although it did not quite hit the highs of the Kirchspiel. Not an AB comparison, but the nose on this Abtserde was a little less explosive and in some sense tighter. It had more a floral, herbaceous drive instead of the fruit basket the Kirchspiel brought. On the palate it was as deep and rich, while still sporting that mineral, herbaceous, focused backend. A pinnacle level riesling, although in my experience, I felt it had more to offer with a little more time or air. Unfortunately that will need to wait till next time as like the Kirchspiel, it evaporated off the dinner table albeit shared among more (i.e. could have used a little more in my glass haha). — a month ago

Senior Faß 6 Ayler Riesling 2023

Orange blossom and the slightest touch of residual sugar to balance out the razor sharp acidity (and balance out my spicy Thai food). This is a light wine but I can almost taste the slate soils and steep slopes.

Whole-cluster grapes and spontaneous fermentations

From Importer:
Appellation: Saar
village: Ayl
vineyard work: All vineyard work is done by hand due to the incline of the vineyards. Absolutely no use of insecticides/pesticides or
fertilizers; the work is completely organic but not certified as such because Florian refuses to spray copper on the vines.

Kirchspiel Riesling 2007

Wine of this Melbourne trip. The 07’ Kirchspiel GG was incredible. One of the best renditions of this vineyard I’ve had. So deep, with a whole spectrum of fruits ranging from pineapples to lemons impossibly cramped into it, and a minerality that just explodes in the palate. Richly textured, yet just dances across the tongue with a sparkly acidity. A wine of superlatives basically, but most importantly, a wine that evaporated off the dinner table. — a month ago
