Marquis De Vingeanne

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Clos du Marquis Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

A blend of 66% Cab Sauv, 31% Merlot and 3% Cab Franc, deep Ruby with aromas of black fruit and floral aromas. On the palate blackberry, currant and plum flavors with cacao and oak notes. Fine tannins, long finish, good balance ending with fruit, cacao, tobacco, earthy herbs and cedar notes. — 4 days ago

Champans Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Certainly tightly wound and young but beaming with elegance, concentration and subtle power. Complex nose of red currants, sour cherries, mint, herbs, hint of roses. Nice grippy tannins and lifted palate of cherries, blood orange, herbs and tar. Long and yet somewhat astringent finish that betrays its young age. The tannic structure and aromatic complexity here could support the development for decades. — 18 days ago

Château Marquis de Terme

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

A stained cork from bottom to top gave me pause. Phew! All good. Dusty notes dominate early on with stewed plumbs and Aussie scrub (underbrush) not far behind. Let’s see where we are in an hour. Sixty minutes on firmly delivers with a weighty 65% Cab Sauv with, dare I say it, a slight nod to Napa. Chewy tannins with continuous dust rounds it all out. I like this wine. As to down the road…I think we’ve arrived au point. — a month ago

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville

Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Beautifully aromatic with rich cherry and red fruits. Earthy and smooth. The tannins are there adding structure but very integrated. A bit of a black tea kind of feel. A bit of salty steak and away the tannins went. — a month ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Le Petit Lion de Marquis de Las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Nose has ripe blueberries, ripe mulberries, crushed blackberries, lacquered wood, damp slate, overly humidified cigar and a touch of cedar.

Palate has blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, dried cherry, graphite, iron and cigar ash. Tannins are medium, actually lighter than anticipated, and quite enjoyable. Lots to like on the nose and palate with this youthful Bordeaux.

45% Merlot / 42% Cabernet Sauvignon / 13% Cabernet Franc

Decanted 4H at the time of notes. Drink 2025-2038.

A second label from our favorite Left Bank producer, a wine I've been searching to find for many years and finally landed one in Chicago last year (2021).

Paired to Merlot steaks (Kinderhook Farm; Valatie, NY) and recently dug Carola potatoes from our garden tossed in butter and garden herbs, both finished with flakey Maldon salt.

That would be Left Bank Severn. I love las Cases as well. Most years the Grand Vin is equal to the First Growths.

Closed. Showing intense violet and lavender, some bitter herbs. But without the complexity it had a year ago. — 21 days ago
