La Rioja Tempranillo

Bodegas Muga

Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2015

Textbook Rioja. Very approachable with a inky purple color; black cherry, dried leaves, cedar on the nose. Some blackberry and sour cherry on the fore pallet followed by wet gravel and woodsmoke. Bold and dry for sure with medium plus acidity and alcohol. Tannings are edgy and the finish is adequate. Again a classic Rioja wine. — 6 days ago

Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2011

Beautiful ruby color with a hint of a brown rim. Ripe fruit (plums, figs, raisins) aromas and flavors with hints of caramel, vanilla, black pepper and smoke. Plush and defined (but not overbearing) tannins. Nicely balanced acidity. — 17 days ago

Herederos del Marques de Riscal Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2015

This is damn good. Well balanced journey of flavors on the tongue with a membrane of slight vanilla tannin around the whole thing. Dark, rich, cherry tobacco to a mild, peppery tannin exhaling a balsamic vinegar finish. — a day ago

Amazing Viñedo Singular (new single vineyard category). 100% #Tempranillo from Viña Zaco. One of the best #Rioja I have tasted lately. — 17 days ago

Ansa Rioja Tempranillo 2016

Medium to deep ruby; medium intensity aromas of red and black fruit, red plum, sweet and sour plum sauce, vanilla, cedar; dry, medium acid, high rough tannins, high alcohol, full body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; wine really blooms as it opens up, very classic example of a young Rioja — 13 days ago

Rioja Tempranillo 2018

Has all the silly stuff on the label. Flag like, face of ancient lord, weird crown on an egg symbol, and raised print on the name. Only subtle thing is that it’s grey. Lovely red, red rose color in the glass. Smells great. Flowers, rose hips, rocks in rain, wood. Flavors are also excellent. Savory edge with nice smoke. Plenty of tart berries. More rose hip and citrus. Some black tea. Almost an earl grey tone. This is a steal of a Rioja from Gross Out. Under $10 I think and it’s dense, complex and full of flavors that Rioja does so well often. — 17 hours ago

Viña Tondonia Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2006

Just love this wine, just gets better and better. Deep Ruby with an elegant bouquet of berry fruits, light spice with earthy tones, a traditional Rioja. On the palate, the wine was silky smooth with layers of flavors, berry and cherry, tobacco, smoky cedar, dark fruit, vanilla spice, very well balanced with fine tannins and a clean structure ending with a nice long finish with earthy and leathery notes. Delicious! Still has room to age. — 6 days ago

Selección Especial Rioja Tempranillo 2015

Just opened another bottle! Founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga Martínez, now run by children Manuel, Isabel & Isaac Muga Caño. Deep Ruby, aromas of sweet red and black fruits with pepper spice and oak. 4 grape blend from the Haro district (70% Tempranillo, rest Garnacha, Mazuelo & Graciano), 36 months in oak, palate shows elegant flavors of cherry and currant with espresso, vanilla & toasty oak tones. Soft full ripe tannins, lively acidity on a long finish ending with an earthy mineral character. Great vintage! — 17 days ago

Viña Tondonia Rioja Rosé Blend 2010

Vintage 2010 | Not everyone’s friend, a style in it’s own - acquired taste. Very brownish red colour. Expressive smell, overripe pear, starting with high bitters. Old wood, mocca. Beautiful expression and balance, dinnerwine. Great effort. — 15 hours ago

Acquired taste, hard to acquire wine!- well done, @Peter van den Besselaar! This used to sell only a few years ago for 25/30$, now it’s close to a 100$, if you can find it in the NY area. Love that wine…

I love this wine, very unique but also pleasurable. I’ve served it to neophytes who love it as well. We are lucky to get a small allocation for around $35/bottle.

Varietales Rioja Tempranillo 2018

Fantastic wine♥️ The perfect balance of fruit, acidity and tannins. It is at the same time a big, fruit forward wine, and a highly focused, multi layered, lower alcohol content beauty🍷🇪🇸 — 2 days ago
