Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2011

This bottle was a lovely gift from our friend Tim who visited Omaha this past Spring. Our only instructions were to enjoy it together with food; challenge accepted! While I have experienced many wines produced by Foillard, this was my first with his “Cote du Py”. The wine pours a deep ruby color; slightly hazy in the glass. On the nose, at least initially, there are signs of some Brett giving a barnyard characteristic but that sort of blows off (or at least becomes less obvious) with cherries, earth, blackened poblano, underripe plum, and purple Sweet Tarts taking a more central role. On the palate, it’s mostly dark cherry and blackberries showing very little in the way of evolution. Medium+ acid, medium- tannin. The finish was super long. I was really impressed how young this wine was coming across; hardly an indication of anything that would indicate ten years of age. Yet more proof that Beaujolais can cellar quite gracefully. We loved how this paired with grilled rack of lamb and a light salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, garbanzo beans, mozzarella and prosciutto. Grazie Tim! — 17 days ago

"Cuvée Corcelette" Morgon Gamay 2017

After a 2 weeks pause for (very mild) health reasons I thought it would be good to pop a bottle I had kept on the side for such occasion.
Cola, cherry, hay and an irony thing one the nose, very inviting. The palate is superlative. Massive acid backbone, superb juicy cherry fruit all along, great width, soft mouthfeel, a little bit of cherry liqueur on the sides too, ample mid palate with a slight drying effect like a subtle brush and a finish with those same cherry juice and cherry liqueur notes. This is so beautiful...

Cuvée de Fous Brouilly Gamay 2017

Going on 5 yrs, thought I’d give this unusual Cru Bojo from Brouilly a try. It’s singularity is first hinted at with a 14.5% abv; it also needs air & time to really come together; finally, it has some serious tannins. Like arid desert dry tannins, or something that one would get in only a Southern French red— like Madiran ( Tannat) or Cot (Malbec). At end of day, needed a good decant or another 3/4 yrs. — 3 days ago

Eponym' Les Charmes Morgon Gamay 2018

My ride or die. Violets. Pastille/candied black currants and blueberries. If you really search for it, granite and ash on the finish. Riper vintage, but acid is sufficient and fruit is vibrant. Texture = silky and divine.

Montmains Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Very nice Chablis 1st growth in a not always easy vintage. Very Chablis type, delicious, fresh, saline, mineral, crisp.

Super beau Chablis 1er cru sur un millésime pas toujours facile. Salin, mineral, frais, très Chbkisien de style, super beau.

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Syrah 1998

Stunning vintage for Chave showing great purity, complexity that is polished & silky with dark cherry, raspberry, smoked meats, licorice, graphite, finishing with a nose of menthol, pepper, tobacco leaf & violet. Great length & balance with the structure that will drink well for many years. — 14 days ago
