Deep & dark purple color with black cherry, dusty cocoa powder & cedar. Palate has stewed fruits & roasted meat. Big bite of tannins and a tart finish. β€” 6 days ago

Siepi Castello di Fonterutoli Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2013

Nice wine but not quite all together at this point. Decanted for 4 hours. But too much sweet oak for my taste. With Marcella Hazan’s bolognese it’s a nice pairing. Deep fruited and the merlot certainly comes through. Good acid, tannins still very there. With even more air probably gets to 9.0. But overall still a bit skeptical of super Tuscans in general. β€” 12 days ago

Castello di Volpaia

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2017

The riserva in this vintage is the better way to go v the Chianti Classico. More expression and the tannins have mellowed, just like a good riserva should work. If you ever get a chance to go to Volpaia, I highly recommend it. Easy point between Florence and Siena and you can stay with Guido and Martina at La Locanda. β€” 15 days ago

Santo Stefano Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2014

2014 drinking exceptionally well in late 2020. Complex, dry, without too much fruit and a quick finish. Should be a higher rating on this app. β€” 8 days ago

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2017

Chocolate, smoke, dates, prunes, orange peel, earth and tobacco on the nose. And what a glorious nose it is... The palate starts with rich stewed fruit and chocolate orange, with a lively fully integrated acidity, and finishes with chocolate and tannin, earth and vanilla pod lingering along with enough residual acidity to keep your palate interested. A perfect Chianti in my books. β€” 3 days ago
