Interesting Pinot Noir from Sicily. The Calabretta vineyards are located in the back volcanic soils on Mt. Etna's north slope. Calabretta is know more for its Etna Rosso , an elegant wine know throughout Italy. This Pinot Nero is so different from its Burgundy namesake that you might think it not Pinot Noir at all. Much darker in the glass, with a ruggedness not expected of Pinot. Still a bit young, I would give it an hour or two in a decanter. This will go well with most grilled red meats. For the Pinot fans, venture south and try this Sicilian version.

Simple. Tart red fruit (raspberry, red cherry and red currant ) very little secondary or tertiary aromas or flavors. Reminded me more of a Garnacha de Gredos due to the high acidity and medium intensity aromas and flavors. Still drank the whole bottle. This shining star was not eclipsed today! Smoky and yeasty with a green leather note, lemon, quince, almonds, star fruit and the memory of chive. A clean, dry ice, nitrogen aroma lingers. Brioche that transmogrifies to scone, with berry esters and edible orchid. Yeast will yield ripe citrus of clementine pith and lemon essence when agitated, but a cleanness abounds and gives this the refined austerity of a reflected holy light. Beautiful!!
