New vintage release tasting at Vega Sicilia in Ribera del Duero. The 2015 Unico presented an elegant profile, while the 2020 Valbuena showcased a bolder character. Traditionally, Unico is known for its power and structure, whereas Valbuena tends to be the more refined and elegant wine. Staff assured me it is not a reversal in winemaking techniques but rather a juxtaposition of their respective vintages. — a month ago
This was firing on all cylinders tonight. Caught at a point v.s. my palate preferences. This still had fruit power but also polished, pleasantly drying tannins. It had a lot of spices braced by just the right amount of sweetness. Truly a joy to drink tonight. — 14 days ago
No doubt at this point in time, the Sauvignon Blanc is dominating. Intense, lemon and lime with above average acidity that makes this wine almost one dimensional at this point in time. Would love to revisit in a decade. My score reflects today with unlimited upside potential. — 12 days ago

WotN in a group of giants. Ping-pongy fireworks of flavor bursts none of which cancels out the others. Kept coming back to this. Wow. — 21 days ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2020 “Pétalos” pours a deep purple color with a magenta rim and an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe and tart black fruits: blackberries, black cherry, salmiakki, horse blanket, and mixed earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A crazy, ambitious wine that’s the result of assembling over 300 plots. Between Raúl Perez and Palacios, Mencia doesn’t get much better. Drink now through 2030. — 2 days ago
