Moss Wood

Moss Wood Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Generally one of the best Cabernets in Margaret River and therefore Australia. Very dark Ruby in colour. Cassis and blackberry, ripe and rich. I would never pick this as Margaret River in a blind tasting. Where are the herbal notes? But still recognisable as a quality Cabernet. The 2009 Moss Wood was given a poor score of only 84 points by Huon Hooke who is one of Australia’s leading wine scribes. He said “over ripe fruit is the problem “. I have always rated Huon’s reviews and have been a long time subscriber to his website and always will be but I don’t believe he got this right. On 4th July 2012 he said “I can’t see this ageing well” and gave a drinking window of 2012 to 2018. Well tonight at 15 years of age it is drinking very well. James Halliday gave the wine 95 points. — 2 days ago

Thanks for the note Bob. I've got a few in the cellar of this vintage. Are they good to hold for awhile longer? Cheers

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark ruby in color with a wide brick rim

Earthy nose with light oak, black fruits and tobacco.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with red and black fruits, wood, earth, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, dark coffee, licorice, dark chocolates, black tea and black pepper.

Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 35 year old is still drinking beautifully. This Second Growth Bordeaux is nicely balanced and complex.

Peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 10+ years.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 4 hours. I did not decant it, but let it open up in the bottle.

Wine Spectator 96 points.

A good food wine that I paired with beef brisket. Gorgeous.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$275.

Fannuchi-Wood Road Vineyard Trousseau Gris 2023

1L growler refills off the tap FTW. A bit longer on the skins in ‘23. This is my favorite vintage of this wine yet, didn’t love previous vintages. This feels closer to the Jolie-Laide version. That’s a good thing. — 13 days ago

I liked this quite a bit. Not quite as good as the Tyrell’s Vat 1. — 2 months ago

Absolutely smashing. Great balance and covertly boozy. Toffee-ish ballast resolves into bright red fruits. So drink-able — 17 days ago

9.3

Aromatic nose of peach, honeydew, orange blossom, hint of vanilla. Beautiful round acidity. Good weight and texture yet ethereal. Lingering salinity on the palate that I rarely found in Napa chard.
Not for the long haul, but so charming and delicious.

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

2010 vintage. Classic Pauillac with ripe cassis, lead pencil, and cedar wood. Still very young, but a class act. Concentrated, profound, and impeccably balanced, with layers of black fruit, a serious structure of haute couture tannins and balancing acidity. Long, mineral finish. Impressive, but nowhere near its peak. — 2 months ago

Temperance Hill Pinot Noir 2021

2021 vintage. Medium body. Expressive nose. As always, plenty of blue fruit in attendance. A bit smoother than expected, yet still rocking. 1.10.24. — 4 months ago
