Rainy Saturday night at home listening to Lady Blackbird. Smoky, sultry, spellbinding. Fresh, with lots of finesse. Stewed fruits on the nose with hints of minerality. Some spice on the palate. Subtle hints of dried longan.
Blend of Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, Minustello, Carcaghjolu, and Moresconu. Northwest- and south-facing vineyards on a windswept clay-limestone terroir. The estate has been certified organic since 2002 and the vines have been farmed according to biodynamic principles since 2006. The yield for this cuvée was 25 hl/ha. After hand-harvesting and sorting, the grapes are 100% destemmed and vinified with indigenous yeasts in clay amphorae. The wine is neither fined nor filtered. No SO2 added.
** Note: This wine will benefit from some time to breathe prior to drinking. **
“A rich, intense nose with notes of ripe fruit and spices. The palate has great volume, finesse and freshness – a pure and balanced wine. The amphora, this ancient vessel of winemaking, has been mastered to perfection by Canarelli.” Cave Pur Jus — 2 years ago
At 10 years old, this is still young, but wow was it singing. Windswept violets, sassafras and blue cheese, dominates the nose. Black Cherry and rum soaked plum, with some spices. Lingering finish and soft tannins. Medium acidity. Makes you want more — 5 years ago
The Iconic Wines of Estate Argyros – Santorini’s Volcanic Elegance in a Glass
On the windswept volcanic slopes of Santorini, Estate Argyros crafts some of the island’s most expressive and age-worthy wines. This historic family-run estate, founded in 1903, combines deep-rooted tradition with modern precision to showcase the full potential of Santorini’s unique terroir—defined by volcanic soils, scarce rainfall, and sun-drenched vineyards.
🍷 Cuvée Evdemon
One of the estate’s flagships, this biodynamic Assyrtiko is sourced from old, ungrafted vines and reflects power, minerality, and finesse. A wine of great depth and aging potential, with citrus oil, wet stone, and saline energy on the palate.
🍷 Cuvée Monsignori
Named after one of the oldest vineyards on the island, Monsignori is a single-vineyard expression of Assyrtiko, made from vines over 200 years old. It’s precise, textured, and layered—combining volcanic tension with elegant complexity.
🍷 Vinsanto 4, 12 & 20 Years
These legendary sweet wines, made from sun-dried Assyrtiko, Aidani, and Athiri grapes, are a tribute to Santorini’s history. Aged for years in oak barrels, they offer stunning aromas of dried apricot, honey, caramel, and spice. Rich, balanced, and endlessly long on the finish.
🍷 Cuvée Palatia (New Release)
The latest jewel in Argyros’ crown, Cuvée Palatia is a bold yet refined new interpretation of Assyrtiko. Crafted from a meticulous blend of grapes from seven different vineyard plots, each adding its own nuance, the wine is strikingly complex. Vibrant acidity, intense minerality, and layers of citrus, flint, and white flowers make this a truly distinctive, age-worthy wine that speaks of place, precision, and innovation.
Estate Argyros’ premium wines are more than just drinks—they are stories bottled in glass, capturing the essence of Santorini’s raw, ancient beauty and the passionate craftsmanship behind every vintage. A must for any serious wine lover. — 3 days ago
Sometimes you just need a #volcanicwine. This one comes from the craggy, windswept Canary Islands of the northwest coast of Africa. Put on some Cesaria Évora and get ready for a whiff of smoky funk followed by deeply mineral flavors of plum and red berries, bitter herbs, and pulverized stone. Faint powdery tannins hang in a haze as the wine lingers with bitter licorice root and camphor wood notes in the finish. Made from old vines of Listan Negro, it’s a classical expression of the Canaries, but from a surprising source. The producers behind this brand are the Spanish cooperative CVNE and local producer Suertes de Marques who selected fruit from theor vineyards in Valle de Orotava on the island of Tenerife. 2016 Medianías Listan Negro Viñas Viejas, Valle de la Orotava, Canary Islands, Spain. — 4 years ago
From a cool, windswept, 2.5 acre plot in McMinnville. A Pinot and Nebbiolo lover’s Syrah. High acid with taut, nervy red fruits. Pair with pomegranate chicken or a Thanksgiving feast. More than anything needs lots of ignoring for a good while. Drink 2025-2040. — 2 years ago
Concentrated, heady. Balanced tannins. Real sense of place - windswept, sandy, red earth. — 2 years ago
Pale gold and viscous white wine with sharp notes of lemon rind, grapefruit pith, and Granny Smith apple with hints of bell pepper, almonds, linseed oil… and call me crazy but I get a faint whiff of tire smoke in the bouquet. Lemon oil, grapefruit, and underripe peach with notes of almond oil, cold steel, and cave pebbles on the palate. It has a rather high alcohol for a white wine, which gives the body some heft. The finish is a bit short, but I find that a small complaint and imagine this unique wine from a windswept Greek island easily pairing with grilled veg or seafood. — 3 years ago
