Nose has blackberry liquor, mellow toasty oak, blueberry mash and light, ripe black cherry.
Palate has over-ripe blackberry, fresh black cherry, charred oak sawdust, dark chocolate powder, light anise and blueberry-black currant juice.
Tannins are mostly non-existent, perfect spot. WS had this pegged at a 2013-2018 drinking window, would have liked to try this a year ago, but we generally don't touch Zinfandel with less than 6-8+ years of bottle age, need mellowing time. Anyone holding this bottle, could do so easily until 2020-21. What a focused, sexy wine... — 2 days ago
Blueberry and boysenberry explode from the glass. Mrs. Knott’s punch and pie, anyone? Reminds me of dessert and dinner after days at Knott’s park in the sun. Makes me crave crispy fried buttermilk chicken and biscuits to pair. Baking berry pie, spice and crust across the mouth. The nose is what makes this wine so crave-able, and the palate matches perfectly. Juicy and baking spicy. Great value and still drinking well! — 12 days ago
Ruby /brick In color with a wide reddish /brick rim.
Fruity nose with black currants, black cherries, sweet strawberries, wood, mocha, chocolates, vanilla, licorice, spices, black pepper, light alcohol and pencil lead.
Medium plus in body and soft, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with cherries, sweet strawberries, red currants, oak, vanilla, tobacco, spices, chocolates, peppercorn and dark coffee.
Medium plus in length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 6 year old Zinfandel from Sierra Foothills is peaking now. Drinking very nicely with nice balance and complexity. Spicy with a soft mouthfeel.
Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up. Needs 90 minutes to open up properly and show the tannins. The spicy finish lingers for a few minutes.
I had this vintage a year ago and I'm glad I had another bottle. What a difference.
I paired it with meats and cheeses.
Aged for 12 months in American (mostly neutral) oak barrels.
14.8% alcohol by volume.

Absolutely wonderfully smooth, semi sweet but not at all over the top, mild dry finish with great genuine strawberry notes. — 2 days ago
My favorite of all the Carlisle Zins year over year. This is in a pretty good place right now; just a slight bit of heat on the nose and palate but not obtrusive; wonderful perfume of dark red and black berries, baking spices, sweet blackberry jam; palate very much the same with the typical Carlisle Zin bramble; sweet tannins; consumed over two days and consistent throughout; really a great structured wine that’s really enjoyable right now but should still be solid after several more years. — 10 days ago
