So youthful & joyful. Upon opening very fruit forward, after some time it settles down and start showing more sophistication.
White peach & ripe lemons, with a touch of cool minerality. So clean & enticing.
On the palate this shows amazing purity. Juicy (lemons!) worth electric tension between the fruit and the juicy acidity. Starts off a bit broad but then shows brilliant focus and great depth. And the finish that just doesn’t stop - precise, mineral, salty, juicy.
This is a brilliant wine - I’m curious to see how this develops once it sheds the youthful fruit. — 4 months ago
Green pea and lemon, butternut and chive; a waxy Semillon essence, leek and white pepper. Perfect age here on a magnum, and shining incandescent. Garden melange on the palate showing baby spinach minus the tannin and crunchy sprouted barley but bouncing hard to lemon abcf citrus peel to deliver a creamy yet pithy framework that rings undeniably dry and lemongrass forever. Excellent in every way and singularly expansive. The DOCG is well -deserved and remarkable. Aloe and chayotes.

Served around 55°F. The cork looked all kinds of nasty underneath the capsule but I was able to extract it, intact, with the help of a Durand. I then poured the bottle into a decanter about 30min prior to service. At the ripe age of 41, the 1983 pours a deep gold with a transparent core; medium viscosity with some slight signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of baked stone fruits: peach, apricot, marmalade, hazelnuts, baked lemon, and those gummy peach rings. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is creamy, buttery. I thought this was a lovely, mature Corton Charlemagne and while it is very much alive, its life-force is fading. Drink now. — a year ago

2009. Fresh from my COMA (can’t opine much anymore), I am greeted by the opulence of sauce Périgueux over smoked applewood bacon wrapped top sirloin. Four black truffles gave themselves to the dicing knives to achieve the feat. Purple Black and cloaked in sooty tar. Rings of pipe tobacco brooding. An olfactory, fungal, tor impudicus waving its spongey menace. Candied currants, bursting blackberry, dessicate plum, and dark earth beneath the litter of the fall. Braised offal. Coffee rye. Tart and black cherry punctuate the entry of swift and silken shadow overwhelming palate. One’s heart is black but this is blacker. Baked blackberry jus.
