Kumeu River

Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

Mates Vineyard is considered the best of the Kumeu River Chardonnay Cuvées but to be honest they are all delicious. This has such stone fruit intensity on the palate together with ripe grapefruit and Cashew. All in balance and drinking superbly. An outstanding new world Chardonnay. A few years left in its drinking window. It will always have that superb fruit and will develop a little more complexity - have the last 2019 in a year or two. — 3 days ago

@Ira Schwartz Not overly, a bit of funk there, but the palate intensity was such that perhaps it could stand a decant?

I agree. These are great wines.

Pinque Waiheke Island Rosé Blend 2022

The description: The 2022 Pinque has classic strawberries and cream characters along with watermelon and a touch of Szechuan pepper. The 2022 vintage was warm and dry and correspondingly this wine is relatively low in acid making for a very smashable wine, although like all our wines there is plenty of subtle complexity to delight the taster. Enjoy! The opinion: in total agreement.

Kennedy Point Vineyard

Waiheke Island Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

ESF
9.1

This is still thriving: elegantly styled Left Bank offering with bright beam of pure cherry & currant, cassis, along w/endearing secondary layers of earth, leather, herbaceousness, hint of pepper, tomato leaf and others... great complexity w/out being all over the place. Mid weight, mild tannins and great freshness. Impressive! — 3 years ago

Kumeu River

Estate Chardonnay 2020

Astonishing quality for their regular Estate bottling - not their individual vineyard Cuvées like Mates etc. Toasty, nutty (oak derived) notes along with yellow peach. M+ intensity on the palate. Not for long keeping but a great drink right now. — 9 months ago

Mudbrick Vineyard

Velvet Waiheke Island Red Blend 2013

Dark fruit (purple and black), chocolate and refined tannins lead to a delicious, complex, and long finish on this red blend. I’d guess a blend of Syrah, Merlot, Malbec? — 3 years ago

Kumeu River

Coddington Chardonnay 2019

Some flinty funky notes to begin with. On the medium weight palate more stone fruit than citrus. I don’t have enough experience with Kumeu River to distinguish the different Chardonnay Cuvées but from Coddington, Hunters Hill, Maté’s Vineyard and the Estate, Mate’s is generally considered the best. I notice now there is a new Chardonnay Cuvée called Rays Road. This is restrained with just the right amount of intensity. A class act from Michael Brajkovich MW and the Brajkovich family. Michael was New Zealand’s first Master of Wine. An outstanding new world Chardonnay. — 4 months ago
