Pinot in a Riesling bottle! The Winery is close to Stuttgart less than 20 Miles from Porsche and Mercedes-Benz in Württemberg/Germany. There is a ton of fruit in this, quite dark. More Oregon than Burgundy. Super elegant. Tannins fully resolved. Dark cherries, hint blueberries and crushed marble, touch orange juice. Drink now. Given the diversity of terroir altitudes/mountains and different styles and affordability Germany is now in my opinion the leader in Pinot Noir and this is another prime example. Nose has moist cedar shavings, cherry compote, mashed ripe blackberries, smokey strawberry, sugared graham cracker, light earthy/vegetative notes and faint alcohol.
Palate has under-ripe strawberry, dried cherry, dried blackberry, moist chalk, dry loan, mineral dust with mild tannins and a long finish.
This bottle seems slightly ackward tonight, even after a 5H decant. I'm hopeful it should reveal more tomorrow, as usual I underestimated how much time is needed for the Liaison.
A very solid pairing to a middle eastern style dish. We flattened chicken breasts, dredged them in a flour/za'atar/aleppo pepper blend, then gently fried. They were topped with a salad of scallion/lemon zest/walnuts/lemon juice. The dish was 95 points! — 4 days ago
Terrific. In a great almost ideal place now. Nose is apricot, honey, candied lemon, spices, citrus, salt, so so aromatic. Big fruit skin energy as well. Also earthy, confectionary and gamey. Just so so complex. Palate is just pure harmony. Not a hair out of place and long saline finish with apricot skin that lingers. Stunning purity. So pretty. Really lingers. A knockout. — 5 days ago
Lovely nose. Juicy herbals and greens. Some black currents. Awesome minerals and almost no fruit. Lovely. Pure, deep and juicy with wonderful texture, length and richness. A wine that lacks fruit and that is a feature and not a bug. Complex and so juicy with such great lift and awesome minerals. — 5 days ago
Superb nose of stone fruits, lime rock zest, minerals galore and a lovely confectionary aroma. Smells like a babbling brook. Awesome. Palate is concentrated, complex and chewy, with terrific lime zest and enough rocky minerality to start a quarry. Lovely tension and mouthfeel and razor sharp acids and freshness. Terrific. — 15 days ago
Sunday chill chardonnay *** from Knipser, Germany. They only make a couple of hundred bottles, once every few years when the vintage permits
Intense, bright golden color, the wine sticks to the inside of the glass.
Nose has citrus and orange peels, my son smelled autumn leaves.
Palate gives citrus fruit, white stones and a nice round mouthfeel and creamy texture.
Finsh is long and an extension of the palate.
95RP, fully agree — 4 days ago
Crackling nose. Stone fruits and green apples with terrific underlying minerality. Also some sugar snap peas. Sweet greens as I call them. What a palate. So pure. Just shimmering and so so complex. Sappy and gorgeous almost cloud like in its purity. Finished with crispy green apples and loads of chunky minerals. But all so sleek and refined. Delicious. — 15 days ago
Okay, here we go! 13 is amazing in Burgstadt for Pinot. Gorgeous nose, wow. Stunning violets. Just sick sick violets. So expansive, vivid and clean. Unreal spice and has insane breadth. Just so so so good. Not sure when I had last but wow has it improved. Wow. This is some nose. Endless and expansive. 9:5. Wow. What purity, elegance sweetness and depth. A knockout. So balanced and deep. Complex, juicy and ethereal. This is the best non Hundsruck Spätburgunder I’ve ever had from Walter. It’s so sensual and seductive while being seductive, mineral and complex. A staggering bottle. — 7 days ago
Wednesday night and tonight's wine is the 2019 Joh. Jos Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett Riesling.
On the nose there is honey, green apple, lime, pear, apricote, rubber bicycle tire and flint stone.
On the palate there is green apple, lime, lemon, minerality, orange peel, honey and a bit of salinity.
This wine is medium bodied with a viscous texture that is a bit sweet but not overly so and high acidity that moves into a long citrus minerality finish. I hope everyone is doing well staying safe and healthy. Have a great rest of the week. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 8 days ago
